SCAM

 

An oldie but a goodie. That scam has been around for years - even before the internet made these kind of things more popular.

But no mistake - SCAM< SCAM< SCAM. They hope to gain access to your bank accounts or con you into forwarding some money to expedite the process of sending the money to you.

Another of the good ol "Good faith security deposit" con game.

 

I was getting as many as a dozen of those a week. If you respond they will want a bank account number to make a deposit. If you give it to them they will make a withdrawal instead. Or it will be some other variation of a scam where they want advance funds or account identifiers. They may also install a bug that will make a remote control robot or "BOT" out of your computer. It won't affect your operation of your computer but the bad guys can then use your computer to attack other computers or web sites.

Now here is how to stop getting them.

About three weeks ago I started returning some very non judgemental information about how to become a Christian every time I received one of these. My computer may be a BOT now, I don't know. But, I stopped getting the e-mails.

I have a nice page typed up about God's plan of salvation. It can be forwarded to whomever. If any one wants a copy of it pm me or if there is interest I will post it here. I am not a preacher but I am a Christian and I realize this is an ATV fourm, not a church.

As I mentioned above I started responding to scam e-mails with information that is listed below. As discussed earlier these scams are an attempt to steal money electronically. They use the shotgun approach by sending out millions of these messages. A few of them are received by persons who are suceptable because of need or greed or whatever. Many of the suspects doing this are over seas in places like Nigeria, Russia and who knows where else. They will attempt to get cash advances to meet expenses of the transaction or they will attempt to get the victims account identifiers so they can clean out their account. When this happens there is no getting it back and there is no identifying the suspects. I figure a person who is attempting to steal is probably "lost". They may live in a country where there is no Christianity and may never have heard the "Word". From that perspective they are a very good target for this message.

Please take this within the context of this thread. This is not an attempt to start a debate or turn an ATV forum into a church. As I mentioned earlier I am not a preacher. The message is for everyone who reads it. Feel free to copy and paste it and send it to e-mail scammers or anyone else you think might benefit.

God, through the person of Jesus Christ, has made arrangements to secure you and give you life with Him that lasts forever. Immediately when you do this your soul is what the Bible calls "Baptized by the Holy Spirit". This means that in one very powerful instant, you are made clean and God accepts you and secures you to Him in an unbreakable bond that will last forever. It is a significant experience that you will never forget. It is called Salvation. It is not possible for you or anyone else to break that bond. God will never break it. You are now a Christian.

Christians are still a human. For the remainder of your life on Earth you will continue to be subject to mistakes, failings, suffering and perhaps the injustice of humans. God knows this and he loves you. You must strive to obey His Commandments and to please Him. He will always be with you. Remember that your life and all things good and bad that happen are ultimately for the Glory of God. At some point in the future your body will die. In spite of that you are safe. Upon your death you will be transformed to His presence in Heaven where you will remain forever. There you will experience only joy. There will be no pain, unhappiness or want. Jesus gave you and all of mankind this opportunity.

Your life has been changed. Go now and tell others of this experience. Learn all you can about Him. Get a Bible to read. Follow His teachings. Pray to Him. Find other Christians for fellowship. In other words seek God's help to follow His ways and please Him so that He will be honored and glorified.

Regularly give thanks to God.
