Default Military Winching Chart

I was watching a special on the M88A2 Hercules Heavy Recovery Vehicle. This is the unit that the US military uses to recover broken down or stuck M1A1 battle tanks.

M88A2

During the show, the vehicle commander mentioned a chart that they use to determine the single line pull based on the weight of the vehicle and how deep it's buried. Has anyone ever seen or heard of this?

I don't think it was Dirty Jobs. The host was some pasty British dude. I think it was How Do They Do That?

Basically it depends on if the vehical is buried to hub depth , fender depth , or cab ,it's a multiplier effect ,also depends on a lot on what type of vehical tracked or wheeled ,and what your line pull is and how many ****** blocks ,there's a whole formula to go thru .
Did a 2 week course last summer it was fun

Yhea they have probably shown it on different shows from time to time. The other day though on the 100th episode of dirty jobs it was military and they had him doing that.

The 88 does a mediocre job of recovering M1A1's... it always had an easy time with our M109's though... Nothing beats a 155mm Selfpropelled Howitzer especially when you use it for Direct fire (as if it were a tank...)
