I still will not put insurance on my sled for a $30.00 day pass every time I ride!!.........Caper.........
If your going to get insurance on the sled.......then really the sled should be used for the whole season!!!</end quote></div>
Then you might as well sell your sled or never leave your property.
Even when we sled up in no where "Wawa" Ontario a Ontario Game Warden will fine you large for no insurance anywhere on crown land. Groom trails or not.

Yes correct!!!.......But if you put insurance on your sled you should use it for the year ........On OFSC trails or Crown Land!!!............If your going to put insurance on your sled just to buy a $30.00 day pass once and awhile...........Then you either buy a full season pass along with the insurance or not get insurance at all that year!!!
I did most of my snowmobiling down East in Nova Scotia,Cape Breton...........When I left there in 1999 they gave a family a break........Any machine under the same mailing address was given second, third Forth,..etc trail passes for a extra $35.00 per sled!!!...Now that is directed toward Family sport!!!!
They are doing this with the ATV Ontario "Power Pass" program!!!!.....Up to 5 ATV's and only a max price of $240.00 I think..........$120.00 for the first $120.00 for the second and 3,4,5, within the Family are included !!!...........Wake up OFSC!!!
The OFSC is also doing a bring a friend snowmobiling promo this year due to the decrease in members and riders!!!!...........They are going down hill..And the price of fuel is not helping them!!!!.....Good luck to them in the furture!!!......Caper.............

I put a set of tracks on 400 Eiger in January... now I have one machine I ride all year!</end quote></div>
Problem is those ATV tracks cost more than a much more enjoyable Mint condition sled, used.
I bought this used 500cc sled for $1800 and it has a long track, reveres, electric start, heated thumb and grips and a top end of 70mph!
I set of tracks for a ATV cost $2500 up here used and slows the ATV to 30 mph, plus more wear and tear on the ATV.

Twofarmkids,
In your case stick with the quads...
Personally I love both sports too much to do just one.. and well since I can - I do both pricey or not...
I agree with TLC... so here is my rant/argument for having both...
A great used sled can be had for $2,000. (Shoot my nephews 1997 Yamaha Vmax 600SX w/Ohlins shocks up front and only 2039 miles is for sale for $1500!) I paid $4,500 for my 2005 SkiDoo MXZ 500ss Trail Rev chassis sled. It had a 1,000 miles on it and has been 100% trouble free (except I need new rear shocks because the trail model has cheapo hydraulic crap shocks). I now have 2,500 miles on it, 1,000 miles in Northern NH alone this year and well probably another 200 plus this coming weekend.
I would NEVER own just a quad at least not when I live in New England... Nothing and I mean Nothing can Match a snowmobile on the Snow.... Sorry you Quad owners with tracks... personally I feel that the tracks probably beats on the quad.. and TLC is right.. what do you get like 40-50mph MAX? You have higher center of gravity? etc...
Nah.. I personally am going to stick to my sled AND my quad

(BUY A QUAD)
We run all year long with our Honda Rincon's. That 4x4 will go through snow like a big 4x4 truck, plus you can add a snow plow and if you own a business you can write the whole thing off as a business expense.
The winding tight trails quads go on are simply a blast compared to most snowmobibble trails are like driving down a country road. Hands down a quad is a better investment. Unless you live where the snow is real deep or you are snow bound in Canada a good used sled would be a better choice. Have both?

Ok new idea here, the kitty cat is gone as of this weekend. So i will buy a little quad for my 5 year old. I also have my gas hog Dodge ram up for sale and hopefully it will be gone this week. I am down grading to a mid 90s 4x4 ranger (cheaper on fuel and insurance). So when i buy the truck, aprox $4000 i will have $3000 to roll into a quad. Hope this works.

Sounds Good!
Good luck with the Ranger - they are decent little trucks .. hopefully it has the 4.0 6 cylinder..because I am pretty sure they came with the 2.3L I4's which are basically useless in that truck.

sell the sleds and get all of your kids/wife on quads. they can be ridden year round especially in low snow areas. and if you have a spare set of rear tires you can install snomobile studs on them to get better traction in the snow(daryl rath did a great article in atv sport on how to install them and they look like they work really well) my whole family rides atvs 3kids ages 568 and me/wife, its a great way to spend family time.

my 2 cents... for me the trax on my wheeler are the only way to go... I am more than happy going 20 mph.. I disliked the UNcontrol of a sled... and I can`t afford to have a machine sit around 9-10 ( or sometimes 12 ) months out of the year year....and as I`m about to go up north on a wheeler trip ( with trax) it just came to me that during the end of the snow season I will still be able to ride my trax while sleds won`t have enough snow and alot of trails are shut down to ATVs cause of mud season but I can still ride cause I`m registered as a snowmobile....waaaahooo.. wheeleron gang!!!
