Greetings,

Good idea, need to counter some disturbing comments earlier this week. While my dad never bought me a quad (they weren't around when he was) I have an equivalent story.

My family had a small Chrysler/Plymouth dealership through the best of the muscle car era. In 1969 I was helping out at the garage washing cars, running for parts, etc. The Road Runner had just been named Car of the Year (for those of you too young to remember, the Road Runner was a muscle car aimed directly at the youth market -- special 383 4bbl, heavy suspension, beep-beep horn, lots of personality). As part of the celebration, the factory sent us a pair of them in a special red-orange paint scheme with flat black hood scoops and extra big bird decals on the doors (just the thing when you're in high school). They were cleaned up and one was parked out in front -- it was sold within about an hour. At noon, my dad walked over to me and said "get a license plate and take that other one home." No explanation, no warnings, nothing -- just out of the blue I got the coolest thing you could get at 17.

YEP!!! My dad rocks, My dad always tried to provide for us and give us opportunities to grow and have fun. Mine included motorcycles, ATV's, Snowmobiles. They weren't always new but they ran and we had tons of fun. My dad is a welder/fabricator. last year he helped my build my 350RX race bike. Stuffing a 350X motor in a 250X frame and bolting up the 250R suspenion. We had to do a lot of modifications to the frame and we worked together. This year we started building a trailer for me to haul my atv's and other stuff. It is almost completed. I think it is fun just to spend time with him doing what he likes to do. He is trying to teach me how to weld and stuff. I am not very good at it yet but some day.
From my experiences growing up and the example my dad set I am trying to provide for my children. I have been trying to get my girls involved in racing but they don't seem to be too excited. They do love going out riding with me and so that's what we do.
My kids always loving coming with me and I love taking them. We always have fun!!!!

Thanks, girlatvr2; your topic is a constructive antidote to previous poison!

Even at my advanced age, I fall on my knees in thanks for the generosity of my parents--motorbike at age 11; Ford V-8 when I finished H.S. (yes, I DID graduate!), just to mention a couple of benefits they provided me, denying themselves I'm certain.

When I read posts from the current overprivileged children bashing their parents because of presumed limitations in their generosity . . . well, must be a generation gap--I cannot imagine ever speaking of my parents in this disrespectful, selfish, and arrogant tone.

But, yep! My dad rocked! Long before it was fashionable.

My best friends Dad died suddenly when we were six or seven. My Dad included him and his little brother in a lot of the "men stuff" we did. He took all of us fishing, fixed our bikes, helped us build a mini-bike, and a lot of other things. Not only does my Dad rock for me but I am sure he still has a spot in those guys hearts as well.

My Dad passed on when I was 26 (i'm 41 now). He got me into motorcycles at a young age. Got my first minibike (remember them) when I was 9 I think. We had numerous street and dirt bikes. My dad never rode dirt only street but would put my old Hodaka Ace 100 and then Honda Elsinore on the back of the family wagon and take me to the "spot" so I could ride. He would just watch as I had the time of my life.

When I had a paper route that required Sunday delivery by pulling a wagon full (with dad modified plywood sides) of papers 2 miles to my route he would meet me at the end of the route with his Java 50 street bike and ride me back home as I held on to the wagon behind us.

He took my family and I around the U.S. to 42 different states in a '55 Plymouth wagon. I only wish he was here today to see what a great Dad he taught me how to be.

My Dad Rocks!
