I'm 47, and some days I feel my age, others I feel like I've just arrived. Broken a few, torn a few, repaired most, and most of the scars don't show wearing riding gear. My sons race (motorcycles), but I don't anymore. Our best friend is 60, and he still races once or twice a year (also motorcycles). Quads are easier to ride than bikes, it takes less concentration, and mistakes are not as costly, so that's what I've stayed with for the last few years. I've decided that I'll ride until my body quits, or the government bans my toys.

PhilMoore,
Don't want to boor people going off topic but we had the 'distinction'(if that's what you'd call it) of being the first people in the country to make an insurance claim on a ppc. Insurance companies wouldn't touch them for a long time and we ended up replacing everything but the motor and chute(patched some holes). My buddy took it in nose first, 360'ed forward and came to rest with the wheel snapped off and the frame torn at the weld among other things. Thank God he was O.K.(wind judgement error)but learning to fly those chutes with him was definitely one of the best times I've ever had. These aircraft really are the easiest and safest things going when flown under the right conditions; problem being those conditions(wind speed)can be few and far between if you work for a living.

Greetings,
I'll be 50 in February, but being born on Leap Year I consider myself a mere teenager. I got a quad three years ago when it dawned on me that (a) I could really justify having one to work on my hobby farm and (b) I was finally old enough that no one could tell me that I couldn't have one.
Then I found out how much fun it was. And I figured it would be best to have someone along especially when I ride in deeper woods. So I just wheeled into town and hauled back a Recon. I had already determined that I couln't keep borrowing a pickup so I had recently acquired a 12X6 utility trailer. Then I got an ATV cart from Northern and then the dreaded flail mower.
I really like doing projects with them. It is so cool to have fun while hauling wood, dragging posts, hauling a few bales for bow shooting, etc. Even the kids think its cool to get something done that way. We also have some nice logging roads that run across the mountains which makes for easy trail riding. The whole valley routinely rides ATVs on the road -- 12 miles of semi paved dirt and stuff -- so its nice to just get around and visit whatever.
But my favorite is to go out really early in my flame helmet and fringe jacket and ride down the road a little too fast (like 40 mph). Man, that's livin' (at my age).

Well, I'm 35 and my wife and I (we both ride) are due for our first child in 2 weeks. This got me thinking; when he's 15 I'll be 50. That being the case, I better REALLY work on getting myself in shape so I can keep up with him. At those ages, he will be getting faster and I'll be getting slower.

I agree w the age thing I'm 26 I lost my mom this past feb to cancer and I lost my dad in 93 to it also. I bought the Banshee I always wanted but since then Ive backed off alot.Life is precious and in 1 breath it is gone but in the same sense ya cant not live life and sleep life away or hide in a closet and not take chances,it doesnt pay to be sloppy w it either cause every minute counts there is no rehersals in Life. The last 4 years of seeing my mom suffer and having to put my hobbies and love on hold is rough,my career was going nowhwere,2 weeks after my mom died I got mono real bad,my moms friend told me recently the dr told her not only did I come close to having liver failure I came close to dying.I was scared I came home and was crying and praying,I asked for god to let me have some time to live my life alittle to be able to ride and have a family someday.I had so many doubts,w work, paper work from my mom,I kid ya not god works in mysterious ways cause my life went from hell to 1 door opening after another,I had 3 months to rest and think bout life. Not to be a negative thing but since then I have gotten a great job my health back which is number 1 to me now,I have it good ,some 1 at my new job told me The lord is smiling down on me.As a christian I truly believe that and in the power of positive prayer,Some people have seen so much in such a short lifetime, plus no matter how bad ya have it some 1 always has it worse.God gives and he takes away he also doesnt give ya more then ya can handle.Colt I think that is sad your 22 year old is sleeping away his life instead of living it,not to judge but ya just dont know when its gonna all go the wayside,I didnt think 2 weeks after my mom died Id get so sick at 26 hell i thought i was kinda invincible at 26,at least I have respect and understanding what she went thru partially and health in general. Its like the saying goes ya dont know how good ya have it or much some 1 means to ya until there gone.Well Happy roosting and God bless.
