This show is so bad, how can this show keep running? Right now they are testing the big bore 4 wheel drive atv's.If you are new to the sport this show will teach you nothing. The rock climbing thing will teach you nothing. They should have walked up those rocks it would have been alot faster. It was like putting a atv on the roof of your house why? And he said the rubicon has 28 inch front tires? I put over 3,500 miles on my rubicon and I did not notice this.

Don't get me started on this topic. (oops too late)
I have a message for Doug Meyers. Keep it up, Doug, and you will be out of business. All you do is promote your sponsors and run utility ATVs up a pile of rocks. I know your heart is in the right place and you truly love ATVing but not everybody wants to sit and watch a bunch of ATVs winch up a pile of rocks week after week after week after week.
In fact, this is what I sent to the Outdoor Channel:
I have absolutely, completely had it up to here with ATV TV (4x4 TV isn't any better). It's the same utility ATVs crawling up rocks week after week after week. You have lost me as a viewer; my patience is spent. I have tried relaying these views to Doug Meyers via the ATV Connection forums www.atvconnection.com and he refuses to realize that there are a lot of sport ATV enthusiasts that are tired of what his show has to offer. Frankly, he should be fired and replaced with a host who has an open mind about ATVing. Doug is so narrow minded he can only focus on utility ATVs and ignores the tremendous population of sport ATV riders.

This show has given me an idea. I think I will start a show on seeing how far I can go in my car after I run out of gas! Wouldn't that be interesting. My Rubicon doesn't have 28 inch front tires either.
I guess the advantage of climbing rock piles all day is when you sell your ATV for a new "rock crawler", your old one will have low mileage on it. For example, 145 miles and 2349 hours running time. You can brag to your friends you have never wore out a set of tires but you have replaced your winch 32 times. Maybe this should be "Warn TV". Are you sure you are on the right channel?

Doug Meyer had a dream of a television show devoted to nothing but quads, so he emptied his bank account and went into hock to make it happen! It is very easy to sit on your butt and complain about the shows content or you could round up all of your pennies and make your own , I can see it now, Waynes world goes off roading. I have seen motocross from Glenn Helen on atv tv as well as highlights from the gncc cross country championship, but I will agree lately there has been a lot of rock crawling, hey its Dougs show and anything that portrays our sport in a positive light is a good thing. How about putting your thoughts on what you would like to see in a letter along with some positive comments and send it to Doug,

I e-mailed Doug and politely asked for some sport quad coverage,
and here's his reply:
Actually we've done quite a few shows on sport ATVs since we started, even racing! And I know I get beat up a lot over the utility coverage, but that's were the market is. Being an ex-racer still keeps me interested in sport quads, but I have to follow the market.
Okay, that said, coming next quarter is the Adelanto GP, a test of a long distant desert racer, the new Z400 intro as well as a project of the Z!
Take care, and thanks for writing!

Seems like a pretty nice guy to take time out to respond to an e-mail. I didn't really expect a reply at all.

1Bearman, been there - done that. I started a poll on what people would like to see on ATV TV. I sent e-mail to the Outdoor Channel. I took a lot of time to write CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM and SUGGESTIONS to Doug but he CONTINUES to insist that the MARKET is UTILITY ATVs. I insist that the ENTHUSIASTS and AUDIENCE are the SPORT ATV RIDERS. Look on these forums; it's probably at least 80% sport ATV riders... That's the MARKET I would target.
Forget Doug and his lame show. Let him "Utility ATV" himself right out of a show and a job. Nice guy? Sure. So what!!! I would prefer that he be the biggest jerk in the world but at least put on a half-decent show once in a while. When this show is gone I will say "good riddance"
You say "It is very easy to sit on your butt and complain about the shows content or you could round up all of your pennies and make your own...". Well, If I did that I would darn well listen to my audience and not TUNNEL VISION myself out of a job. Me, I have a website that I am very proud of and have put a lot of work into.... That's MY CONTRIBUTION. At least when you go to my website it's not full of mindless dribble and chit-chat and (lately) cheesy commercials. Go to my site, get info, see pics and videos and leave knowing your time wasn't wasted there. It didn't require me to empty my bank account either; just about $60 per year for web hosting and a lot effort on my part.
Defend Doug all you want. I used to respect him... After a while I simply tried to understand and sympathize with him.... Now, forget him; I tried. Let him fail - I couldn't care less. His show STINKS!!!! Defend that.
Here's some parts from past posts to Doug on this subject:
Ok, a few days ago I wrote a VERY long post about the show but after reviewing it decided it was s little harsh and didn't post it.
After watching the episode last night I changed my mind and decided it was time to speak up because, frankly, that had to be the WORST and most BORING episode ever. I can't believe this is going to be a 3 part episide???!!! Are you serious?
Doug, I respect what you are doing and admire your commitment to the Atv community. I know that it is a tremendous amount of work just to produce a 30 minute show. However.... If this show keeps going the way it is I predict that you are going to have the burden removed. The show is failing... Fast. The episode last night was soooooo boring. I watched TLC's Junkyard Wars instead but switched back and forth a lot and it was always the same thing, a Rancher being winched up a rocky creek.
I remember being so excited when DISH Network started carrying the Outdoor Channel and I came across Atv tv. I watched it and it was some show featuring some form of utility ATV... Ok, I'm sure the next week will be better... Next week is was about some form of utility Atv doing something... Next week, same thing and again and again. I can remember a few interesting episodes in the last 18 months or more that I have been watching it but only a few.
So, do I still watch the show? Well, yes and no... I turn it on to see what it's about but more times than not don't bother watching or switch back and forth between it and something else. If I miss it that week it's no big deal.
My biggest complaint is that it is very heavily geared towards utility ATVs. Who do you think the real atv "enthusiasts" are? Utility or sport riders? I'm willing to be the sport riders are and that many (not all) utility Atv owners are ranchers, hunters and other casual Atv users. They are not the ones who I believe are likely to watch your show. Look at the people on these forums, the majority are sport riders and probably the ones who would be most likely to watch a show about ATVs.
Second biggest complaint is WAY too much chit-chat about nothing. You got 30 minutes. About 10 minutes are commercials lately which doesn't leave much room for real content; try to make the best of it.
Other complaints; too many manufacturer sponsored shows, virtually no sport Atv content, need more trip reports (maybe half of the show about a trip report and half about something else), generally vague from a technical perspective, and sorry but just plain boring.
Constructive criticism: Make the show a little more lively. More sport ATVs; like TRX250rob said, the recent 4 stroke wars at Glamis would have been great. How about some of the events like sandfest in Oregon or King of the hill at Little Sahara for some good duning action. Clean-up day at Glamis??? How about going to different Atv trails/locations and do a show and tell. You could put useful links to the shows content on the web such as rules/regulations/directions/etc about different riding locations featured on the show. How about a 2 minute tech tip at the end of the show? How about a show about customized ATVs. MX and GNCC Racing episodes. Atv drag racing. Atv safety. Kids ATVs. High Performance ATVs. Performance modifications. I could go on all day but please, anything but 30 minutes of an Atv winching up a creek or Doug reading a mud tire review out of the magazine.
There are a million ways to make the show better but sadly all I seem to see is a show that has more ads, more chit-chat, unending utility ATVs and and less real ATVing.

Doug, Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to post your thoughts. Also, please don't feel like people are ganging up on you. I think a lot of people like myself want to take the opportunity to have your attention for a while to express their views to you. I think that we are all hoping that we can influence the direction of your show towards something that would more suit our interests. Nobody is being "cruel"; maybe blunt, frank and honest but not cruel. Misguided? Maybe.
Doug, I realize that utility ATV owners are the majority of ATV owners. No argument there. BUT, I feel that the sport riders are the more ENTHUSIASTIC (and probably vocal on these forums at least) group. I am 36 years old, hold a high level management position and have an income that is well above average. Demographically, I probably fall right into the utility crowd and am not representative of the average sport crowd. I realize that. Let me ask you this; Do you feel that your show balances sport with utility episodes proportionaly to how many of each group are out there? Now let me ask this; which group (sport ot ute) do you feel are more active or enthusiastic about their sport? I'll start a poll in a separate thread to see what response we get from ATV connection members; there are over 20,000 members so that should represent a fair sampling.
I posted my thoughts here to make my voice heard to you, Doug, specifically. I tried to be honest and frank (not just whining) and offer constructive comments on what I would personally like to see more of. These posts by me are in no way meant to be offensive or cruel; just honest. If I ever have the pleasure of meeting you in person I would still express the same thoughts. My hope is that in some small way I can influence the direction of your show towards what I believe would be a more well-rounded product. As I said in my first post I do admire your efforts and respect your dedication to the ATV community but feel that maybe perhaps you are a little "misguided" about viewers want to see. Either way, I will tune in when I can and hope for the best. In short all I am asking for is a little more diversity and a little more "spice" in the show. Good luck for continued success!!!

Dang, WyoDuner, you do realize that these shows, like all TV shows, are down way ahead of time, don't you? If you make a change, it might not show up on the TV schedule for 3-6 months?
And for every sport rider, there are utility riders complaining, because 3 months ago, all you saw were the GP's and other races from the West Coast.
So, chill out, and change the channel like you have been. Me, I'm just glad to see any ATV's on television. And while I have also voiced my opinion and preferences, I am not egotistical enough to believe that an organization with limited funding (compared to national TV organizations), who are just barely getting by, would scrap months worth of tapes and re-do everything because an individual wrote a 3 page letter! It's like an oil-tanker, no matter how hard you try, it might be a while before you notice any change. I'm not telling you to hush, or that your opinions don't matter, but stay positive, and diligent, but mostly be patient. Or do like Doug, and scrap up enough money to put on your own (competing) show, and let the rest of us tell your what we think of your version of an ATV show.
Hell, it's like any other TV show: sometimes good, sometimes great, and sometimes real bland. And I don't expect the TV show to be as exciting as actually riding an ATV. Do you also realize the cost to do a lot of the live and action sequences that would make it more exciting? The cost of the equipment to tape and produce that, and teh number of folks required to get it out, week by week?
