Everyone out there tell me how it is you get the ***** to go beyond 3rd gear on
a jump on a Raptor or equivalent quad. I've seen some guy at Pismo take a jump in 4-5th gear on a Banshee. There must be some kind of mind focus going on, or just plain crazy. I usually take them in 2nd or 3rd. Chuck-Raptorman

You got to have the feel for the jump. I won't even consider flying over something that looks nasty. If it is a good looking launch, and a smooth landing on the other side I will pin it in 4th on my LT250R.

It all has to do with feeding the need! When you can jump in 2nd or 3rd consistantly you'll soon want to go farther and faster. Right now I believe I am limited to my stock shocks so finding the easier landing always helps until I can upgrade.

I've jumped some pretty nasty things on my warrior. I just get myself into my own little world and think nothen can go wrong and do it and so far I've been lucky.

this might just get you all laughing, but i have jumped my grizzly 660! lol, i know, it dont jump like the sport quads do, but it flew kinda nice for an ol' fart just trying to hold on to what little knee he still has left, heehee. on my last attempt, i got it up to 40 mph and went 6 ft in the air at a distance of 24 to 28 ft( measured by feet, lol) i have some pics of it, if you want to see what a grizzly looks like in the air. the pictures show my going a little farther each jump. by the way, it had less than 5 hours on it when i did them, lol.

I also love to jump my 4x4 650 Prairie, and it loves to fly! There are pics of my 650 flying high on my website. Love to hit the doubles.

I prefer the lower gears. Usually 3rd (or even 2nd on little stuff), with the throtle pinned. If I use the higher gears, there isn't enough torque coming off the jump lip, and the nose can pitch in. Although I don't get as great distance, I still get long hang times because of great height.

A Banshee has a lot more to give in 4th or 5th than most bikes, but I dislike them as jumpers because they are front heavy.
