Just a word of caution fellas.
My Bud and his father inlaw decided to use their Sportsmans to go ice fishing yesterday. No problem at first the trail was untouched fresh crystal snow, but once they got deeper in the bush the snow got deeper. No problem my Bud says,"I'll just put the tire chains on". The snow got deeper but the old Sportsman just kept pushing through (it's amazing what a difference tire chains make). The snow got up to better than 2 feet and still the trusty Polaris pushed on and thats when it happened. The drive belt blew. No trouble with the engine overheating, but the drive belt could not take the strain and let go. They were almost out of the woods so his father inlaw had to pull him out the rest of the way. No spare belt on hand so off to the dealer they go.

Moral of the story: No matter what kind of machine you ride always be alert to any overheating problems, not only the engine but belts on belt drive and clutches on manual shifts. You could save yourself a long walk.

Sounds like you where lucky to have another machine with ya
I love riding in the snow out here in California, in the Sierra Mtns. I have a highly modified Wolverine with a manual clutch. I was very suprised what some extra horse power will do.
I can blaze through 3' no prob. and have made it through 4' but that was pushing it.....
I bet you guys have plenty of snow up there though

On an average winter we get 5'-6' of snow but this year the storms came all around us and we only got about 2 1/2' of snow. The snow is already gone, but that's not to say we won't get another snow fall yet this month.

Let's see here.......just reading Thumper's post and trying to calibrate my tape measure........you say you have no problem going thru snow over the racks, but once it gets over the handlebars it gets a little tough???? Those must be SOME mods.

Ya gotta understand, 6 inches is 3 feet to some "Rookies".
IF that were true, every ad that company run would have mighty pix of their animal.

I would have to agree that 3ft seems out of the question...and 4 ft deep snow? man....
Not too many sleds will make it through that.
