Chevy truck question
#2
For a few years Chevy made two versions of the 3/4 ton.
The real one was an 8600lb GVW with 8 lug wheels and a full floating(two outer axle bearings) rear axle.
The other one was 7600lb GVW with six lug wheels and a semi floating(single outer axle bearing) rear axle.
THe lighter duty one fell under stricter emission standards but also avoided the heavy taxes and licensing fees that some states impose on vehicles that fell into the 8600lb GVW range.

<< I've noticed something similar.A1/2ton 2wd chevy pickup or blazer has 5 lugs,where as My Z71 1/2 ton has six,and my Dad's 88 K5 has 6.
Kinda like a mixed breed 1/2 & 3/4 ton. >>
All American manufacturers and some of the Overseas builders use 6 lugs on their 4WD trucks. >>
I'm not sure about the newer trucks but....My 76' ramcharger 4x4 used only 5 lugnuts. My Scout uses only 5,the suzuki samari uses 5(the same bolt pattern as the scout and earlier cj jeeps).Speeking of Jeeps,my neighbor has a 77' 1/2 ton 4x4 Jeep "honcho" pickup...has only 5 lugnuts. My moms 99 Kia Sportage 4x4 also has the same lug bolt pattern as the cj's,Scout.
