How will the dock strike effect the Japanese bikes???
#1
I don't know if the rest of the country has noticed, but there is a dock strike out here on the west coast. The ships have been sitting there unloaded for a couple of weeks now. One has to wonder if this will cause a shortage of bikes produced in Japan, especially if the strike continues for a long time. I know Honda has a couple of plants in the US, but some of their models (like the 90) are only produced over there. Can't recall about the other manufacturers???? And, there is also the issue of parts. Even for bikes assembled here, a lot of parts must come from the orient.
Anyway, here in the southwest the riding season is just beginning!! While you unfortunates in the rest of the country are looking forward to wallowing in 10' of snow, we will be packing the trailer and heading for Glamis (I just had to say that). This is the big time of year for bike sales out here, and I have to wonder what a shortage of bikes might do to the market????? Might be a good time to sell a used bike???? What about the rest of the country????

Why even worry about the supply of dirtbikes and quads to the california dealers. All of the farms here in the central valley are going broke because all of their crops are just sitting on the docks rotting. The guy that is renting our land had to lay off over 60 of his workers. I hate the worthless dock workers. They are a bunch of big whinning ********. The starting wage for a dock worker is $85,000 a year!!!!! and they still want more money, while all of the farmers here in CA are struggling to feed their family's because some lazy dumbass is being greedy. This just pisses me off.

first of all, that salary is way out of the ball park. second, they are supposed to go back to work on wednesday, so the shortages should be cleared up in a month or two

CNN stated that the minimum amount of money made by dock workers is $85,000 a year. Prices for living in san francisco are alot higher than everywhere else, but most people commute from The nearby San Joaquin Valley, were prices are much lower for living. You can rent a very nice two story house around here for the same price as a one room shack in san francisco. I know the dock workers are supposed to go back to work soon. My point was that these dock workers are running farms into the ground around here. The farmers just got done harvesting their almonds to send over seas, but now they are just sittin on the docks going no where. If the crops don't get shipped, the farmers don't get paid. Imagine working you @ss off all year and getting nothing in return.

Well if you ask me this has everything to do with them damn Democrats. It's an effort to take Iraq off the front page and shift focus on the ecomomy. Ruin an already bad economy which BTW was starting to dive months before Bush took office and place further blame on the republicans.

I don't think bringing politics into the forums is going to cause any problems. Most (if not all) of us hate the democrats and like or atleast tolerate the conservative republicans.

If they strike again, fire all and replace them with the national guard. At least the NG would be able to keep the flow and maybe modernize. IMO, this county needs to have all Unions obliterated. If you cant fight for yourself then move over. Someone else would be happy to have your job.
