Disappointed

It shouldn't be posted here but theres people that need to see this that don't look at land issues. I went down to Little sahara sand dunes in Utah on Monday and was astownded by what people had done to our dunes. People, Haul your trash out and if you can carry the can of pop with you, you can also haul the can or bottle out. I cannot believe people take hide-a-beds and other crap out there and leave it. These are the type of people that we need to delete before the enviro's use it as leverage. Thers was more cans in the sand than what most soda manufactures have in their possession. We need to help by picking up a little for ourselves and a lot for the dinks out there. Its no wonder why our park fees go up and we can't see any improvements in the campsites or the roads to get us there.

Wen we go to the dunes (Walden Colorado) on the big holidays a good size group of us travel around the dunes to clean up after those that are to big of pigs to do it themselves. I just started to join the group and it got bigger and bigger. MAybe you and your buddies could start the process and hopefully others join in. Good luck.

That's one of the big reason clinton, gore and bunny huggers in general are trying to close down public lands. We have the same problems with slob "outdoor" types here in Nevada also. Our generation may skate by but our kids may be looking at their inherited 4 wheelers in the garage. Please take care of it or we will lose it!

This situation is so sad but also way too prevelant in the outdoors today.
Some trash can come from a mishandled trash receptacle. But like most of you here I fell that the majority is due to total carelessness on the part of people using the rewource, rather abusing it.
I have been boating at Lake Powell for nearly 30 years and still can't remember a single time on the lake that we did not have to clean up somebodys elses mess at some point during the trip. The ones I expecially love are stumbeling upon an old firepit full of melted aluminum cans and broken glass bottles! Well of course we are bare foot!
We can and must all make a personal difference, as is pointed out elsewhere in this thread. Adopt a philosphy that says "If it is to be, the it's up to ME"! Take along estra bags and stage a pickup drive for an hour during your trip. Amazing how much of a difference that can make even in a large area. Oh and take pictures of this event and share them with pages like this. Show everybody that it's cool to clean up!
Lets also not be so critical that we forget that mishaps do happen and when the wind is blowing across the sand that stuff can end up miles away in very short order. How many times have we discovered out own packs unzipped with it's contents scattered who know where and how far?

My Nebr. is a forest ranger (a liberal one because that's all they hire now days) and he gets a laugh when he sees a VW van full of enviro hippies camped back in the woods with stickers all over it that say "save the earth" or "we belong to the earth, the earth doesn't belong to us" "earth first" But when they leave there camp there is tons of trash strung all over the place such as toilet paper, news paper, soup cans, glass bottles, plastic food containers ect, boy I am Sure glad they are closeing down rideing areas and stoping us from rideing on trails becasue they are sticking up for the earth. I agree. We went to Uwharrie a couple of weeks ago. saw a bunch of drunks riding around and had notcied they had been dropping beer cans on the trail. It's bad enough to be drinking out there but throw your cans away !

Litter pisses me off, too! While I was riding through the ditch at my cabin, I was amazed at how much garbage there was. When I retured to the cabin, I grabbed a hefty bag and after picking a half mile of ditch, the entire bag was full! Is it really that hard to clean up?

fastrax,
You are right. People leaving crap in the areas where they ride gives the local all the ammunition they need to close down the riding area. We had one land owner accuse us off hauling a refrigerator & dumping it. I know that todays quads are tough but I haven't seen to many racks that could accomodate a full size refrigerator.

Every time our club rides we take plastic bags & pick up trash & such. I don't want to bash the motorcycle guys but I NEVER see them doing this.
If everytime you ride you spent 10 minutes picking up trash then it makes our whole sport look better. There is no excuse for leaving trash on our trails or riding areas.
