Default 416 or 440 or Cam

I'm looking at uping the power on my 400EX. Right now I have a silincer, jet kit, and K&N on it. I need more power and speed on the race track the predators and the 2-strokes pull away from me on the straights. What is all invalved in each of these kits? IfI just put a race cam in will I need stronger valves, and springs or anything else. How much more power will a cam give me. Or am I better off with a 416 or440 kit; and which kit is better. Also what is all the steps invalved in these bigger bore kits. What parts will I need to replace with better parts. I'm intrested in the Cam, but I'm not sure it will be enough.

Hey Q999, I cant answer you question. I just wanted to know if you were happy with the power you got from your mods so far. As far as for trail riding that is or in the dunes. I'm looking into a new DYNA F2 ignition set up.

a cam wont give you a gain in power, it will move the power you have to a different rpm range. if you are getting pulled by the other bikes then i think what you need is like a hot cams stage 2 cam. it is a great mid-top end came. although you have to ride the bike more like a 2 stroke the stay in the meat of the powerband it will pull really hard. this is what i have heard. but if you were to do a 416 big bore port it put in oversized valves and cam it then you would be talking serious horsepower. it really depends on how much money you have to spend.

i sold my 400ex to my friend and got a v force. and my other buddy got a raptor and my other friend got a kfx400 the same day. The 400ex was the slowest and it had pipe, k&n, jet kit, rev limter and still got smoked bad. But a week later he had a guy put a 11:1 wescio piston, white brothers stage 2 cam ,and ported the heads, and that thing is bad a$$. He smoked the piped raptor bad and every thing around. I wish i would of keeped it. And parts just cost around 300.00. If you soup it up i recommend you defintley get a bullet proof clucth, well worth the money.

Hope this helps .

P.S. if you got to go bigger i recommend a 426 kit

From talking to people who have a 416 with hotcam stage 2. It's supposed to have the same bottom as stock and a whole lot more in the mid-top range.

just put a hotcam stage 2 in my budies 400ex a couple of weeks ago.

It gave a lot more top end pull, it just keeps reving now. gave it a powerband feel now, little harder to ride. 200$ overall, was a good mod. He likes it.

Other mods are fmf pipe and K&N filter w/no lid.

So the hot cam stage 2 gave it more top end pull?? I have 200$ if that is what the cam costs. I love the bottom end power of my 400ex but i just need that top end pull. But is there anything else i would need if i get one?? Like stronger valves??

The cam was $125 plus gaskets, and oil and filter. Over all about $200.
He lost some low end power with the cam. It has a powerband feel now, But it easily revs to the rev limiter.
