Default 416 or 426 kit for ex which is better?

I was going to get a 440 kit but i think i will be better of with either the 416 or the 426 kit. i know you don't have to resleve these kits all you got to do is bore. i want to be able to run on 93 octan or pumped gas so a 10:1 or a 10:8 is probably the way to go but how much fast really would a 426 be to a 416? ups and downs? but i might just go all out in either the 416 or the 426 which i probably will anyway and just get a 13:1 and run race gas.

I have a 426 kit in mine. I love it. shows very good power increase and everything. The only thing with a 416 is that when it goes bottums up you are able to go to a 426 without resleaving it. I would go ahead do a 426 though. I have had mine in for more than a year now and it still runs strong.

I agree with Natertot. I also hav e a 426, used to have a 440. I haver my 426 dialed in better, and its faster than my 440 was. But in fairness, if I had the 440 dialed as well, it would have been faster, I think. This 426 revs quick! I have a custom lightened piston running 11:1 on 50/50 mix.

i've been researching the very same thing as u, i've found that if ur on a budget, it will be cheaper to get a 416 kit. the 426 costs more for service. also, the 416 and 426 rev faster than the 440. if u get the kit, it is recommended to get new exhaust, a new carb, new cams, and and u will need a new gasket kit. i've been in touch with a guy from C&D racing, and he's been givin me this info. good luck!

They do get a little hot but if you get an oversized oil tank and some airscoops it will help keep it cool.

Sandman. IMO the oil tanks are not worth the money. Its not oil capicity that is the problem its cooling. 4 Stroke Tech (Mickey Dunlap) has a extra oil cooler. Its real nice, drops head temp by quite a bit, drops cool oil right on the cam. Its real nice. It adds 1/2 quart of oil, and gets it cool, all for less than $150.00
