nickel plating 250r frame????
#1
I am interested in doing this. Anybody have any opinions on this option. Would almost be a chrome look finish, but more durable and easier to keep clean. Any opinions or suggestions? I can get it sandblasted and nickel plating pretty reasonable. Thanks in advance.

Chrome plating is nickel plating with chrome over it to give it a more blue reflection. Nickel by itself is yellowish like white gold. So there is very little difference as far as durability and cleaning.

I am concerned that the TRX frame actually "gives" some and would tend to crack the plating in certain stress points. Maybe not, but something to think about. It seems there are a few common points on them. My wife's suffered a few already.

Thanks everybody.
What about painting then? I have a paint gun that I can use myself. I would rather powdercoat it, but I am just looking at options, and on a budget. What are some good types of paint to use? Like I said earlier, I can either sand blast it myself or get some body else to do it for next to nothing.
Im looking at either red or silver in color with even some metal flake or something along those lines.
Single Stage?
Hardeners?
I am no expert in types of paint, so Im not for sure which to use.
I have read some good posts before on here, but I can not find them now.

I used regular single-stage on my Tecate-4 frame and it's holding up very well. I have a friend with a Tecate who has a nickle plated frame and it looks pretty sweet. I don't know of any issues that he's had with it but I think that he rides mostly dunes.

Thanks Rob & Hollywood
I found a place around here that would sandblast/powdercoat for around $100 for single color and up to $200ish max for more complex. That seems pretty cheap to me.
Now Im indecided on what to do. I am seriously thinking about going with silver plastic, red seat and tank. And I think a red frame would look good with that theme. Maybe just nickel or chrome the a-arms, swingarm, stem..etc. But I just cant decide. I will probably have which ever done in about a week so I need to make up my mind.
What would you guys do?

That color combination would look sweet. That's really cheap for sandblasting and powder coating. It seems to be around $300 by me. There are pros and cons to each. Powdercoating is much more durable then standard automotive paint however the powdercoating can't be easily touched up.
