This is the reason why every atv has a thumb throttle on it when you buy it stock from a retailer. Just keep working your thumb and you will build you muscles in your thumb and it will solve this problem. It just takes time and alot of riding to prevent this matter.
hualin....not every quad comes with a thumb throttle, the gasgas 450 has a twist throttle from the factory......i agree with you, twist throttles belong on bikes....i would have a tough time landing jumps with a twist throttle...but its not quite universal.....

ive been riding for about 5 years, and have ridden motorcycles for about 2, so i know the difference in feeling for the two.
the only thing im worried about is how stable will i be able to be on the throttle coming down from jumps

yep, and if you have a habit of gripping and squeezing in corners or any other time when you're controlling the quad it can be a real pain. i noticed this when i would take corners..i'd always squeeze and power the bike around a turn...which was bad with a twist because it shot my rpm's way up and took off in the middle of the corner or too soon

Ain't no easy answer. I use a twist on all my quads because thumb throttles require an open right hand which doesn't work real good in rough stuff.. Never had any problem landing from a jump. Couple times I've had a problem when I got off balance or lost my seating, twist throttle stays open when you want it to be closed then. Hard to rotate the wrist then so you need to raise your elbow.
