ThreeWRacer, your right, and they really don't have much boost pressure in the cylinder. Unlike a two stroke, a four stroke,when the valve pops open, the cylinder see's the same PSI as the intake manifold. (This is not really true because the piston is dropping away and this drops the presssure.) This can't happen in a two stroke because there is a big hole called a exhaust port that lets the pressure out. The only thing that keeps the pressure in a typical two stroke cylinder is the turbin wheel back-pressure, and that ain't much. It will blow down the cylinder and make a real good, very uncontaminated intake charge, unlike a typical two stroke charge. That is where the power increase comes from.

you summed it up pretty damn good, you wouldnt beleive how long it took me to peice that together in the net 8yrs ago when i tried to figure out why 4 strokes had more back pressure, took me like an hour
