The K&N gives MUCH greater flow. In addition, the K&N flow is more "laminar". That is, the air flows in a more straight line, and doesn't swirl around as much. And, the foam gives more filtration.

I run K&N's with Outerwears, but I clean them before the Outerwears even gets moderately dirty. Ususlly, the filter isn't even dirty at all. If you are going to be negligent about cleaning, stick with the foam!

I agree the K&N flow more air but run Outerwears on i and clean it often. If used in sand, go with form and Outerwear

You know what KN says. " We spent a million dollars developing and testing a superior air filter so why would anyone put a $10.00 piece of material over it just to restrict air flow ? "

According to K&N, the filter filters better the dirtier it gets.

As for the statement about using foam in sand... I don't really understand this. Sand is BIG compared to dust, I would think the K&N would be BETTER for the sand. I hate it when the sand gets stuck in all the holes in my foam filter...makes me nervous putting it back on the bike with sand still in the filter. I do my best to get it out, but it's just about impossible.

the reason why the sand doesnt get stuk in the k and n is because it goes right through. lol. ya i heard that the dirtier the filter is the better it works to. they suposidly reduce your engine life though.

You're kidding right? Paper has MUCH smaller holes than foam. Like microscopic, vs. visible.

i dont know the filtration specs but i have seen a lot of filters come and go over the past few years between me and my riding buddys we have a small group called the baja brothers and we do alot of all weather and allterrain types of riding the point is we have used both k&n and foam (all brands)and we all like the k&n better because it doesnt seem to make a perofmance differance and it last a lot longer and doent break down i have seen small foam particals in my intake boot befor i dont like that at all but on the other hand i know a couple of guys who race (really nice rides) and they say foam is better you just need to replace it often

K&N is the best. 95% of the people on here use K&N filters.
