WHat determines speed in a quad?HP or gearing

I just got my new issue of atv sport an THE MOJAVE finally 1 a shoot out! HA That should show dirtwheels what they know or dont know rather:heheLOL.ANy ways they posted the speeds of all the quads, tops to 20mph etc blaster came out w a 1.95 seconds to that.I have a pipe.jetting kn aifilter etc an I wonder if the added horseower raised mph n the mOjave.Or would ya hae to go change gearing to to get a higher top speed?I mean if ya could get 50 hp outa of it,it would still theoretically still do 60 w the stock gearing or would it?

If you are max'ed out on RPM more power won't give you a faster quad. Look at it this way. Lets say you have a quad with 30 HP. Now lets say that your max speed at red line is 20MPH in 1st gear. When you click it into 2nd, or 3rd, or..........., you still have 30 HP, but you go faster because of the gear change. RPM for RPM, your quad will be the same speed.

alot of stuff determin speed. wind, atmosphere, hp, torque, gearing, terrain, tires, driver, time of day(heat vs cold), alot of stuff.

The best way to improve...get better in everything...get better gearing...get more hp..and get an after market sprocket...you do a combo with all of those then you'll see the most increase.

rpms and gearing is what determines speed. if u are running 45HP in a banshee and 70HP in another banshee and both turn the same rpms and have same gearing, they will have the same top speed. This site has a mph calculator. its pretty good. MPH Calculator

Hp and gearing go hand in hand we speed and acceleration. If you don't increase your hp, changin the gear ratios will give you high top speed, but take longer to get there...or, give you faster acceleration w/ lower top speed.
I would increase my hp first, and you will notice faster acceleration w/ the same gear ratio, but the same top speed. Once you increase the hp, you can put a bigger sprocket on the front or a smaller one on the back. This will increase your top speed, but lower the acceleration.
So, you get hp, which gives you acceleration, then you trade acceleration for top speed.
