when should you use race fuel, what determins this?

Blaster 97 is correct. If you put race gas into a stock bike you will see little or no gains. Race gas also has a different ingintion point than pump gas. I have a 300ex motor punched out to a 405 and i run 114 octane. If i were to put regular gas inthe bike it will not run properly. The pump gas will ignite to fast casuing premature detonation. try to run pump gas its cheaper. I pay $30 for a 5 gallon drum of VP14

Race gas will do NOTHING but drain your wallet unless you have hi compression mods done to your motor.Pipes, carbs, reeds etc do nothing that can benefit from it.On a 2-stroke you should have 200+lbs cranking pressure and exhaust port mods to need hi octane. My motor cranks 220lbs and only needs 100 octane so I can mix race and pump to save a dollar or two.

Everyone is correct...Higher octane fuels are only used for high compression engines. Usually 10:1 is your limit on Premium 93 Octane fuel. Anything above that will require more octane to prevent premature detonation (depending on engine timing).

I am thinking of buying a 350RX conversion......the ad says 13:1.......so I would have to run race gas??? what about 93 with octane booster?????

The problem with octane booster is, it doesn't magically increase octane per say. It just makes the fuel more stable to burn in those higher compression engines. Think of it this way, if all it took to raise octane to 110 was to buy a $3 bottle of magic juice, everyone would be doing it. Especially considering a 5 gallon can of 114 octane fuel runs $40.
If you are running 13:1 or 13.5:1 in my opinion you should have no less than 98 octane. Again it also depends on your engine’s timing.
