Quieter Exhast

I've had my 250R now for some time. I never ride it either. The reason I don't ride it is because it's simply to loud for the places I ride. Right now it's got an FMF fatty pipe, answer silencer, mildly ported and bored .030 with a weisco piston. I love the way it sounds and everything but I ride all private land with permission from the land owners. And it's just to loud for going threw their yards. Is there any way I can quiet it down without losing performance? Maybe a new silencer, and wrapping the head pipe in something? Would I lose any performance if I was to put the stock silencer back on it? But I want to keep the head pipe. I'm using it for mostly woods riding. What can I do, or am I stuck with haveing a loud machine? Thanks for the input.

I feel that the STOCK pipe would be much quieter than the FMF even with an aftermarket silencer. It may even improve low-end over the FMF. A friend with a Quadracer LT250 did just that. It made a huge difference in sound! The stock pipe I BELIEVE is DUAL WALLED. Wrapping the FMF pipe will tend to push up the powerband(biased toward top-end) by keeping the heat in more--I wouldn't recommend it. If you have removed the airbox lid--replace it and run foam vents. You'd be surprised the ammount of noise comming from the box. Lastly, please contact CT RACING by E-mail--and tell them you want them to build a STEALTH Performance exhaust for your R. I ALREADY HAVE. Allen Knowles said that it's a current project that CT IS working on. Maybe if more of us contact them they'll build it faster. LESS SOUND=MORE GROUND!!!

I want to keep the head pipe, which is FMF, But I am willing to scrap the answer silencer. What kind of differences would I get in power and sound, if I was to keep the FMF and put a stock silencer on it?

I wouldn't put the stock silencer on an aftermarket pipe. The stock silencer doesn't have the flow charateristics that the FMF has. Invest in a Turbine Core 2 silencer. It is quieter than a Power Core--I know, I own BOTH. Not only does it have a USFS Approved Spark Arrestor, it produces a deeper AND quieter tone.

I have the same problem on my FMF Blaster. The new TCII silencer puts out about 98db (I have a sound meter). However, I found out that the older and bulkier TCI silencer I originally had, puts out 93db.(all readings are freshly packed). So I welded the cracks up in the TCI and I have been running it.
As for the pipe. I bought some pipe wrap and warped and fat part of the pipe. (don't wrap the first 12 inches). It's not as quiet at the stock pipe, but it's real close. It did move the powerband up and gave me a few more HP to boot. It does look ugly, but it works.
All in all, my FMF Blaster is a lot quieter. Not as quiet as stock, but as close as it's getting. And good enough to ride about anyplace.

It was made my FMF. The Turbine Core ISDE. It could also be be the Turbine Core 2 ISDE. Label is warn off. Sadly, FMF no longer makes this silencer. I bought a brand new FMF Turbine Core 2 (TCII) hoping to replace this warn out one, but it's way to loud.
The pipe wrap I picked up at my dealer. I have photos on my page.
