Well, first I would either go down a tooth in front of up a couple in the rear sprocket. Then look at a pipe geared toward low end, such as an FMF gnarrly or an LRD adjustable.

Or smaller tires too.

The paul turner type-6 pipe is the best low end pipe you can buy. It does sign off a little on top but for woods it is the best. By the way I have had the LRD and the FMF fatty. and it is better for low end. Dave

if you want to use your stock rear sprocket(39T) with the 22in tires than you will want 12 tooth front sprocket. This works very good in the sand with paddle tires and launching in 2nd gear.

I just wanted to add that for the woods the 12t counter did not work well for me. First gear was not fast enough, and 2nd was to much for very serious climbs. To give you a little info on my setup I have an 87 R with a 60 over Prolite, reed spacer, Delta 2 v force cage, cr head gasket, adjustable counter balancer at + 2 1/2 degrees, kandn with 12 i inch holes in the airbox lid. I run a stock carb. And the type 6 pipe with LRD silencer. I have my bike at 13 39 and it crawls, I mean Crawls. I dont hardly ever need the clutch. By the way the bike has 22x11x8 Maxxis Sur-Traks on the rear, and 22" XC hole shots on the front. Might I also ad that a 13tf 40tr combo I feel would be a good match too. I have yet to try this, I am waiting for my next Chain and Sprockets to try it. The 13 39 is really good though. I have a fair amount of mods to compensate for the bigger tires though. Anyway the Type6 is the woods pipe of choice. As I was told by Lenny the tech guy at Paul Turner, it gives you the four stroke effect. And it does, you can lug like hell. Besides, Paul Turner has a 30 day money back guarantee. As they told me, what have you got to lose, if you dont like it send it back. Need less to say I still have it, and love it. Dave

if you do the math the 12-39 combo with 22in tires will be almost the exact same as 13-39 with 20in tires. so if you were happy before with a 13-39 with 20 inch tires this would make the bike act like it use too. fourtraxxc the 12-39 probably did not work out because of the extra horsepower your bike is making. The more power your bike makes the more you can gear up.

How do you tell what Paul Turner pipe you have? I just purchased an 86 R with a Paul Turner but dont know if its the Type 6, hi-rev or what?
Are there any particular markings somewhere on the pipe that tell you what it is?

Thanks

kandn was a K&N air filter. and the 12 1 inch holes are in my air box lid. I ordered the the uni 1 inch vents, like come with the Toomey pipe kits for banshees. I took out the little sponge filters, all they do is clog anyways. It lets in good air, filters the big stuff, and all but in deep water it is fine. I also run an outerwear. Oh and the adjustable timing allows you to advance or retard your timing. The 88-89 models I believe had a 2 degree advance over the earlier models. On my 87 I can make up for this with the adjuster. As for your sputter, I reread your post and you speak of a reed cage and spacer. I think you may be going in the wrong direction. You speak of a bigger main jet. Actually on the rad valve and the Delta reed cages, and possibly others, although I have delt with only these two, Actually you may need to jet down even up to four sizes. You need to start looking at your plug, I suspect your motor is running fat, and you may need to jet down, not up. Dave
