operating temp for alcahol
#1
Could someone please tell me... What would be considered an "ideal" cylinder head water temperature for alky to make the most power? My bike would just reach 140 degrees on gas. And now on alky, I can barely get it to come up over 110. And thats with an outdoor temp of 65-70
We do a lot of racing here in my area in the winter time, so its not going get any better. I thought about maybe blocking some of my radiator off, with a sheet of aluminum.
Thanks for any replies

I'm not sure about 2 strokes, you will need to ask Debeechman, or someone like that, that races alot. but if you quad is liquid cooled then you should be able to keep the motor at a consistant temp with your thermostat. also on a 4 stroke the correct exhaust temp is about 1250 degreees for a good running alky bike.

Its probably 40-50 deg here now.
I wonder if it could be harmful to my engine, the combination of that cold fuel and the cold air?
Maybe Ill go back to gas until it warms up.

One of the main reasons people run alky other than power.. is that it makes your engine run cooler. . which is a good thing. . there could be a point thats too cool. .I'm not sure. . but i would imagine its going to run quite a bit cooler than usual no matter what. good luck

people like to run alcohol because it generates 10% to 15% more power. Any drag bike with a stock radiator generally doesnt have a temp problem unless your going long distances.
If your bike is at 110 degrees you really arent making potential power. Gas likes 180 degrees, alk likes 170 or so. Never let your water temps go above 200 degrees. At 220 the cap will blow.
Id say lean your motor down until you're in the 150 range
