Zilla/ streetbike engine tech. questions
#1
I am in the process of putting a gs550 engine in my zilla. I am not expecting a performance boost I'm just burned out trying to keep it running and tightening nuts and bolts. My question to anyone who has done one is did you have to change the final drive ratio from stock zilla and did you convert the zilla rear sprocket to the larger chain or the engine to the smaller chain. To anyone thinking about doing a engine switch it is quite a project but fun if you like this kind of thing.

Changing the front sprocket to a 520 would be the easiest. Lots of aftermarket sprocket companies make 520 sprockets for streetbikes. Infact, I'm changing my new CBR1000RR sprockets to 520's.

its easier to run a larger front and rear sprocket, and have enough gearing room to go to a lower ratio if needed.i have 14/ 52t on my 600,but havent got to mess with it enough to see if it needs a differnt size.but to give you a idea 12/52 with a 22 tire is good for over a 100mph
i also run 520 chain
i also run 520 chain

Thanks I'm hoping the 6 speed tranny will give me more leeway but I got to start somewhere. I plan to run 530 chain I just need to find a rear sprocket. There is a cycle recycler near me I'm sure can fix me up. I've just about got the frame ready for paint so i'm well on my way.

I think I will sell it. I got 2 cylinders both out of bores and a toasted piston. I am trying to decide weather to sell as is or get one of the cylinders resleeved buy a piston and sell it as a runner. It has a kiehn carb and old style fmf exhaust. wadda ya think

I'm making good progress frame and motor mounts done. Electrical and exhaust next. I havn't figured out what to do about the air filter yet the stock one would fit but I don't think I'll be happy unless I get a nice big foam one.
