I believe one of the new sport quads has fuel injection. I was wondering why it is not more common. Is it cost, hardware, weight or need for computer control or what? Seems like it wold be nice to be able to ride under different conditions or different setups (i.e. differenet air filter) without having to re-jet. Just wondering if anyone, who is around fuel managemant systems believes it will be common in 5 or 10 years?
Thanks

My mechanic (A shop steward at an Acura dealership) and I have discussed this at great lengths. We always come to the same conclusions, fuel injection would not only add an immediate %25 percent of power to the motor due to it's efficiently but it would also broaden the power curve. Improve performance to basically all forms of ridding conditions,,,

But would add about 3-5 hundred dollars to production costs for R+D. The duel carbs on the Raptor is a good example of trying to mimic EFI leaving one carb for bottom end then when you put it to the bar both carbs open up giving it good broadband power. But, being still carbs they can prove finicky in different environments.

We believe EFI is closer than people think due to stricter environmental rules coming down the pike. Maybe even only a year or two.

A new 500cc EFI ex would be practically be equal to a Raptor due to the gain in efficiently and would prove superior in broader ridding conditions. I.e.- altitude, air denceity, moisture, air tempature, timming and a consistent mix of fuel all the time.No more fouling plugs no more choke just turn the key and mash the button.Starts every time-puuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuur even with a dirty air filter.
