Maximum HP for a quadzilla?
#1
I am wanting to start a long term project quad and do a total rebuild on it and the quadzilla has always interested me.If anyone has done this can you share some ideas such as would you do it again and were the parts hard to find? This project sounds like a fun one but i may change my mind after hearing too much negative input but either way i would like to hear it.The last thing i am curious about is the maximum horsepower i could get out of the quadzilla while still retaining a decent amount of reliability so again any input?

gonetothedunes-My wifes 440 is a basic build without porting and utilizing the stock carb and it does very well. When she races up our comp hill which is only 300 feet long she has no problem with stock raptors,450rs,yfzs or ds,s but i did say stock and when those quads have any mods it is a different story. If you have a 400 ex and want to keep it rather than spend many more thousands on a new quad then you could have your 400 built to a 440 for much less than that and depending on the quality of the build you would have a very good performer. We have found that the term "440" is kind of deceiving because some 440 builds are very extensive and can run with any of the newer quads even when they are modded but some are poorly built and dont do much better than stock so again if you pick your builder carefully you could get quite a bit for your money.

The LT500 can be made to run really good, and be fairly reliable... You must keep in mind there are SEVERAL design shortfalls with this motor, that need to be corrected before you can even begin to consider it reliable, or add more HP.
I'd say 70HP is pretty easily obtainable, while remaining reliable (Once the above mentioned issues are corrected)
The problem is, if you don't plan on doing your own work (e.g. sending your motor out to a 'puppy' shop)... THere aren't many folks out there who do a good job overhauling these motors.
I've had mine since 1990, and love every aspect of the machine... I'll never part with it, but then again... I do all my own work.
Hope this helps.

A stock quadzilla should beat both of the 450's.Several of my friends have LT500s ported by FTZ(FTZ racing .com).They seem reliable and run good. One of my friends has a stock quadzilla except for a pipe,K&N filter, and v-force reeds. He has no problems with piped banshees. These are good running bikes. They won't beat heavily modified banshees, but they are competitve with most bikes.Good all around bikes if you're man enough to kick one over.If you ever had one kick back on ya,you know what I'm talking about.
