Default fuel injection sport quad???????????

Your so right about people screwing up the jetting. The altitude and temp adaptation features are sweet to. A couple weeks ago I was tried out 3 maps and a dozen fuel settings in about a half hour. It was a modded engine with a different exhaust. Man back in the old days Id have wasted one or 2 days at least getting a carb setup correctly. Cant beat plug and go. The diagnostic features are just like cars to.
One drawback to efi is that it is easily damaged by those who dont want to learn how to work on them correctly.

By the way the GasGas450 is also a fuel injected race quad.

Most, (actually none unless the GG has one I dont know about), of the current EFI quads availible in the US market have an O2 sensor. So instead of jetting with your carbs, you'll be mapping fuel with your computer. Either way its not a plug and go situation, but KMS is supposedly in the works on just such a setup.

PLUG in your laptop change the settings /map to your preferance and GO. The Optimum system was originally designed with and 02 sensor (in fact the wires are still in the harness) but it was not used. Its a less complicated system that way. The 02 sensor is handy for keeping track of the lean/rich conditions but since there is software out now to edit our own maps it would add even more parameters to mess with for the do it yourself map builder. The fuel and timing tables are enough to deal with already. There are several maps out there that can make a stock engine put out incredable power but I know they will shorten engine life big time. Which is why I recomend sticking with factory maps or custom ones using blends of one or more stock maps.

Until you modify the engine, then you either need to get a map from some aftermarket company or you are back to test and tune. Correct?

How would it put out more power and how would it shorten engine life???

The only thing that truley sticks about EFI is if your battery is dead, your screwed!!! no pull starting the quad to get back to camp
you can still pull start a quad with efi. the battery doesnt supply the engine with the current to run the efi. that is done with the alternator. so as long as the alternator (or stator i guess in a quad). as long as the stator is spining it is creating the electricity to run the efi

interesting.....
I was thinking that with a dead battery your Fuel pump wouldnt work, thus no gas to start. Are you saying the stator will turn over fast enough to supply enough current to the fuel pump when being pull started??? I didnt think that was possible, but I hope you are correct, cause I am putting a EFI motor in my DS,and that would be good news

bigger.

Default fuel injection sport quad???????????

same principle as pushstarting a car with a dead battery. it has an electric fuel pump and all that and you can still get them running

Google up MegaSquirt

This setup rocks!
I've built a megasquirt system and they are very reliable. I've run it for over 2 years on my jeep without a single problem. Squirting an ATV would be easy as long as you could find some small enough injectors and a clean signal for the tach circuitry. My experience with fuel injection is that while it won't produce more topend horsepower than a perfectly tuned carb, it will produce better throttle response, warmup, altittude compensation and fine tuning of the air fuel mixture across a wide range of rpm and load conditions. For anyone building a turbo system, its ideal.
