Default Perfect jetting?? Computer based

I while ago I was reading through the messages and someone mentioned a hardware/software tool that would actually give you perfect jetting. I believe it was a piece of hardware that watched a couple things on the quad and connected to a computer that ran a piece of software. It may have been an all in one, but I thought it was separate.

Well, the problem is, I can't remember what it was called or who made it. I am spending way too much time wth jetting and I am looking for the real deal. I know there are some people that can just feel or hear the right settings, but I'm a techie and I like the idea of getting it right on. What are the shops using?

I live in the sticks in Montana and the local shops just don't know what to do with my modified quads.

Thanks!!!

Get yourself an O2 sensor. You can get them from several different speed shops like Summit racing. You have to weld a bung in the exhaust and wire it up, but that's it. You will be a jetting expert in no time.

Ok, I did a little looking and I can see O2 sensors are available. Not completely sure how they hook up, but that doesn't scare me. I even found one from Bosch that has software and a digital readout that reads from 9.65:1 to 20:1. Sounds good. But now the next question is, what is the right ratio of air and fuel??

Thanks again!!

Perfect burn is around 14.7:1. You don't want this, you want the most power and that is around 12.4:1 to 12.5:1.
Too bad you went with the dig readout. They are very hard to read in the bright sun.
They are very easy to hook up so don't worry about that.
I don't know why an O2 gauge would have software?

I run a digatron guage it tells you exhaust temps, rpm, coolant temp, oil pressure really what ever you want to read. It has a bung in the pipe much like o2 but smaller . It doesnt read fuel ratios but it can tell you how much you are burning by the temp. 1325 degrees is around burn down but the closer you get the more efficient you are hotter=leaner. Just another option I thought could be of use.

Excellent. Actually I haven't bought anything yet, I was just thinking something that dumped to a computer would allow me to track it and take notes on what works best. But, maybe I'm over estimating how much I'll be looking at it and should save my change.

Ok, so what's the gorey details on welding on a bunt. Is it an in-line type of thing or is it a tap on the side? Next would be, does it matter where on the pipe it gets mounted? And finally, do you measure at all rpms, at idle, or maybe full throttle?

Super thanks,

Your puter idea won't work unless you buy some sort of a logger or can carry a laptop on you at full tilt. (or dyno it) Not something I would want to do, that's for sure.
Once you have the jetting on the money most people take the gauge off and store it until the next mod. No need to monitor it all the time.

If you are worried about jetting, get an O2 guage not a pyro. A pyro has it's place but can point you in the wrong dirrection sometimes. With jetting in mind an O2 guage will get you right on the money everytime.

The bung is just that, a bung. You drill a hole on the side of the pipe and weld the bung in place. The dirrections that come with the guage will tell you where to mount it. With multi cylinder you mount it in the collector so it reads all the cylinders. With a single cylinder that is not the case.

Your carb has 3 circuits. Idle (pilot), midrange (needle) and main, (main jet). So yes, you will need to run all 3 circuits and dial each in at a time.

On the digatron bung you do not have to weld it. It uses a heavy duty hose clamp with a pipe lock to hold the probe in the hole. Go to digatronusa.com.Or try exhaust gas techologies they sell a variety of fuel ratio guages and there you can pick the best on that fits your use.
