cylinder and piston problems
#1
i have recently put head studs on my 440 and when i llooked at the piston and cylinder i noticed a gash in the side it is not to bad but i dont want it there and you can see where the piston rubed. i am completly confused what to do . i do not know if i can have the gash removed by honing it b/c of the size. and i cant order new rings for my piston because my cylinder is at an odd measurement of 3inches at 495. if you guys can give me any advice at al of what to do i would appreciate it very much thank you alot.

If its not too deep then you can remove it with a hone and the rings will pick up the gap. But if you have to go too big on the cylinder wall you are going to have to get a new piston. You could also have a sleeve put in or get a new jug.

Take it to a good machinist and tell him to hone .001 out of it. You would be very surprised at how much damage can be removed from a cylinder with just a tiny bit. If that doesnt fit the bill then do as the above post.
