Yamaha R1 ATV

I have a 2003 Yamaha Raptor and just bought a 2005 Yamaha R1 1000 cc FI engine. Has anyone used this engine in a ATV frame. I am thinking about putting it in my Raptor frame. Any ideas?

I have installed a FJ 1328 4 cylinder in a raptor frame and it went in real easy. The R1 engine is a little smaller than the FJ so you should have an easier time of it. You have to move the engine as far forward as you can and spread the down frame tubes a little for exhaust clearance for the two center ports. This also gives you the necessary clearance for the f.i. , or carbs in my case. The actual engine mounts are a little tricky but are easily fabricated if you have experience. Cut the horizontal tube just in front of the foot peg and at the front of the tube where the lower front engine mount is. This is where the tricky part starts, custom fabrication of all the motor mounts. Hope this helps and good luck.

I saw pictures of a rappy that a guy put R1 motor in. It was on this forum but I can't remember his user name. It almost looked stock, except for the sweet looking duals out the back and the speedo and tach on the handlebars. Just make sure u beef up the drivetrain.
