thinking about a twist throttle on my kfx. can anyone think of some pros and cons?

 

I installed a motion pro twist throttle on my 2005 400ex, because i injured myself on a table saw at work. i had just bought my 400ex so i needed to ride it. saw cut/ knucle shattered bone and all. PROS: cheap/ inexpensive. easy installation. Feels snappier/ more responsive. easier on hands. ensures better grip on bars. friends will be impressed(mine were) thats about all i can think of...
CONS: feels out of control to a point, riding wheelies becomes more complicated, sometimes you give too much throttle when you only needed a little. sometimes going up steep hills you hit a jarring bump in the middle of the hill and you cut the throttle completely off.... not good.

If i never cut my thumb on a table saw, i would have stuck with the stock thumb throttle. i have never used a twist before i injured myself. if you have experience on dirt bikes and you liked the throttle, by all means go for it. other than that i wouldnt recomend a twist throttle for an atv. i will be swapping my thumb throttle back just as soon as i get an hour of warm weather.

 

dont do it. almost every one hates em. if u go for long rides then yes get it

 

i personally dont care for the twist throttle.... yes it is more comfortable but it can skrew u up a bit too when ur riding as said above^^^^^. if u hit a bump the throttle can get messed up. i wouldnt buy a twist throttle kuz i feel no need for it and im comfortable with the thumb throttle so wats the point of paying extra for it?

 

just think of going through woops and starting to fall of the back and u would be cranking back full throtle. twist is a death trap. but dont listen to me atv sorce and exriders sis i dumb and should have never been born. but its up to u. if your not agressive and trail ride only then i say get it but other than that do not get it.

They're cheap and abundant, try one out. I did, now I'm purchasing one for each of my atvs. Worst case scenario you can sell it to another curious rider. Most who knock it have never had a chance to get comfortable on it, they take a short ride on someone else's atv and dismiss it before it actually gets a chance. Trying someone's else's bike doesnt work so well for a few other reasons, mainly that you arent used to that bike, the handling, the bar and seating position, the pull strength of the carb spring, the powerband, etc.

 

thats completely not true, as long as you know how to work one (or have even owned a dirtbike before) i can almost guarentee that that will never happen. Most people say that either when you turn right or hit a bump that you will gun the gas, but i have still not had a problem with that. (and i have had mine since the spring when i got my z)

 

i didnt even like twist on my dirtbike. i didnt have it for more than a year then it got stolen but im sure that would of been a nuf time to get used to and i never liked it still.

 

I like twisties. I hate thumb throttles, it's like riding one handed. Left hand clenched around grip, right hand laying on top of grip so thumb can reach throttle. Too unsafe for me and my shees. I've got to have both hands wraped around the grips. I also notice I use my front brake alot more with the twisties, easier to reach the lever something. Took me about 2 weeks to get used to it, but I'll never go back to a thumb set up.
