I run the 4" Supertrapp & I would think it is similar to the IDS model. You simply remove the core from the silencer, wrap the new packing kit around the core. Secure it with some masking tape to allow easy insertion into the silencer. I had not repacked mine for about two years and the original packing was completely gone without a trace.

If I recall, I just took hold of the lip of the core with channel locks and it came right out of the aluminum shell. Rust here in Az is seldom a problem with the low humidity of 10-15%, however.

Harold,

I did mine after 1 year of riding, it was a mother to get the core out, had to use a board to pound it out, breaking loose the end of the spark arrestor, after all that, the core looked fine, the IDS has a ceramic type wool, it is very heat resistant and durable, but I replaced mine any way after all the trouble of taking it apart. I made sure to clean up the inside and make sure the core was not beat up, but it still had to be tapped into place. Maybe I had a bad one, sounds like everyone else didn't have the problems I did.

Good luck,
