Jetting My 400EX
#1
I have 400EX that I can't quite get right. I have a FMF silencer on it and have drilled out the airbox lid. I ride at about 5000 ft. I have run against the R's and banshees at lower elevations without a problem but when we get to the dunes I can run with them for about 150 ft. and then they walk all over me. Any input would be appreciated.Oh I went up to a 152 from a 148 and cured the cutting out problem but the bike won't pull.

R's and banshee's have a horsepower advantage on you, and when you put paddle tires on, it makes it that more obvious. if you go up in elevation you will have to jet leaner (more air) and as you go down you have to jet richer (less air). This is due to the fact that at higher elevations air is less dense, and more of it is needed.

I don't have a 400ex, but I do ride a modified Warrior. It soundS to me like your running too fat at the dunes; I assume you mean in Ca. If youre running right at home at 5000' then you're way to fat for sea level. If you're using the stock filter with the drilled lid, you might try the stock jetting and if It's cutting out on top end go up one fatter. Just as an example, at my home in central Az I have to run 3 sizes fatter, with my mods, but when I ride in the mountains at 7000' i have to go to the stock jet which is a 145 mikuni.
