Default Turning an '06 Z400 into the ultimate sleeper

After building numerous race and show cars, during this past week's trip out to the dunes the inevitable lit up in my head...."Build the ultimate sleeper!"

Now, my goal is to build a motor that is just as reliable as the stock motor but which is faster than a 350 2-stroke Banshee. I posted this over on z4OOcentral and only recieved two responses. I'm fairly new to riding and don't know too much about these motors but I do know that I want the ultimate sleeper.

Am I dreaming here? Have I stretched my imagination beyond possibility? If not, who can I turn to build me such a motor? I'm not looking to build a drag bike here. I want a bike that I can go out duning with like any other stock bike but with the power of a 350 2-stroke. Any ideas? Thank you.

the fastest z400 i have seen with a 400 motor naturally aspirated, it runs 5.4's but it is pretty much just a drag bike. i dont know how much further you can go without getting into major reliability issues and keeping the front end down. good luck, hope you the best!

put a banshee motor on it and there you goooo...

but other than that i dont see it happening. i mean it might be fast but not the power of a banshee and i will not look stock either...

Best way I can think of going is to get a Yoshi stroker kit, and a big bore Athena cylinder on top of that. The Athena on stock bottom end gets you 436cc, and the Yoshi stroker by itself gets you in that 450 ballpark as well. The two combined would be a stock looking engine of 470-480 cc range. A friend of mine has a Yoshi 450 (Z400) that on a stock head with hotcams and pipe & rev box & FCR carb would consistently beat my YFZ450 (piped & dyno-jetted& airbox eliminator kit) in uphill sand drags. His brother has an Athena Z400 that runs about the same.

Now this setup with head porting & mods by DAB racing around the Salt Lake area could be a real fire breather, and retain very good reliability. Get ready to pay, you'll have several grand wrapped up in it, but it'll run like hell and surprise a lot of people.

Thanks! Sounds like that may be the way to go.

Where can I pick up all these parts...and a name of a reputable SoCal shop would be great!

The most well known guru on Z400's up this way is DAB racing in I think Orem Utah, somewhere around the SLC area. I've talked to him on the phone, guy really seems to know his stuff, and I've run against several machines modded by them that are way fast. He can set you all the way up.

It can be done. I have had a lot of fun with mine. Have surprized alot of people. The problem is keeping the front end down. My next step is extending the stock swing arm. I think I can do it to were only people that know what they are looking at will notice. Just remember no matter what you do their will always be somebody fast. (and I don't mean me) Just in general.

Good luck and have fun.

Sorry that you didn't get many answers from that other site. That yoshi 450 quad that shady is referring too is fast. But your going to spend over 2k for the stroker kit. I dont think you'll need much on mods to beat a (STOCK)!!!! Banshee. Im going to say it again, STOCK Banshee. Once you start modifing major internal part, your reliable starts going down. So, I would stay with a medium big bore, cam, carb, rev box, full pipe, HD valves, HD cam chain, and porting by DAB or Venom. And atleast two more inches on swing arm. I am going to find your other post from central and post there to.
