I have two questions. First, about foot pegs. A couple weeks ago, I bought some DG nerfs. They didn't fit on my quad ('99 400EX) and I returned them. However, in order to get the nerfs on, I had to remove the mud guards. When I went to reinstall the mud guards, I found a bolt that was FUBAR. I got a new bolt, but I never reinstalled the mud guard. I rode all this past weekend with one mud guard and one plain foot peg. I liked the single plain foot peg better, but I am worried about protection. The mud guard does offer some protection, not much, if a foot slips backwards. Nevertheless, if all the weight on my foot went down on the guard, I am pretty sure it would just break off. Many quads set up for MX, desert and dunes simply have straight foot pegs and no guards. I like the straight peg but I am still concerned about safety.

My second question has to do about snow riding. I know snow won't be coming for a few months now, but I still want to know if snow riding can be harmful to bearings on the suspension and axle/swingarm. When snow melts, it would be just like water, and water is harmful to bearings. Am I worrying about nothing or are there things I can do to prevent potential damage to the suspension and swingarm bearings?

asfor the safety concern, do you have MX riding boots? if not either 1) keep the guards on until you get some or 2)risk your leg getting sucked under the rear tire. the MX boots do offer quite a bit of protection and will help prevent ankle injuries. and if you ride gripping the seat & tank the way you should a bike, you should have no problems.
as for snow riding, it seems to me if you wash the quad off you get them wet anyway. if you really want assurance, put waterproof grease next time you repack, and see if you can put in grease zerks... if you don't already have them.
