I found a small crack on my FMF Fatty exhaust pipe and wanted to get some ideas on how to fix it. Apparently the pipe was rubbing on the bracket from my AC nerf bars and caused a small crack. I want to stay away from welding it since it would dis-color the pipe. Is there anything out there that can patch this crack so it can quit making a mess on my lower frame rail?

Thanks In advance

to be honest nothing beats welding it.
but two things get used to remedy the same problem on a regular basis: j-b weld and liquid steel. however they still leak occasionally.
also drill the ends of the crack, so it deosn't propagate any more, with a small drill

J-B weld will probably do the job. I actually have used it to repair a crack in the cases with no problems. Welding is the best way though. Be careful not to burn throught the pipe. Brazing is the best choice, and it may not even discolor the pipe if your careful.

My FMF Power Core IV cracked right off of my 400EX so what i did since it was farly new was called FMF and sent it back to them. They checked it out and sent me a brand new one. Try it.

Team400ex - I doubt that would work in my case since the crack came from the pipe rubbing on the nerf bars. But get this, I took the nerf bars and pipe off to fix the problem (and to polish my nerfs) and when I was putting everything together - there is no way that the pipe will fit without hitting the nerf bars. I don't know what to do now. Has anyone else had this problem with an '86 R and AC Pro-peg nerfs? I know they make different pipes now for the 86 and one for the 87-89 so maybe I can convince FMF to swap for the new 86 pipe.
