On 2 and 4 stroke, your engine will overheat. On a 2 stroke, the heat will affect the piston (which is gonna grow bigger, because of the heat), getting larger, it will rub more into the cylinder sidewalls, BTW, getting more heat...etc and will finally get blocked in the cylinder wall. Seizing in. That's what's gonna happen.
On a 4 stroke...I don't really know...it will probably keep on running, BUT you will damage your bearings (inside the engine)...you might also break the rod (BIG damage inside the engine).
Knowing this, you understand why most people run too rich...
