i want to build my own race quad and not spend alot of money on it because i don't have alot to spend. i was thinking of putting an ATC 350X motor on a 250X frame, and then maybe bore the motor. then have it ported and polish. would this be a good idea and would it be cheep and still be reliable. also would 250R a-arms and a 250R swing arm fit on the 250X frame to make it longer and wider. would this be a good quad to race and still ride on the trails. i am open for all suggestions and advice.

Byrd...it doesn't matter what you build! My 10hp briggs and straton lawn mower...will smoke you!!!

I like our idea of doing the 250X - 350X conversion! Seems the best combination for trails and stuff!

You are better off buying a bike already done because conversions cost a lot if you do them right. Also, you would probably be better off putting an engine into a 250R chassis, you will be much happier. I don't think that a 250R swingarm will fit on the 250x frame, but there is a company that makes a weld on kit to convert the front end of the 250x to a 250R frontend so you can use the a-arms and shocks off the "R" They advertise in Dirt Wheels, something like ATV Specialists or something.

these guys are streeing you wrong if you want a cheap race quad look hard for a low priced 250r of any year really usely years 86 and 87 go for less i say this because when you get into 4 stroke mods it is NOT cheap ask anyone with comman sence it takes 2 times the money to mod a stroke stroke and get hafe the power of a 2 stroke with the same thing done to it i love my r and it makes a great trail quad ofcourse it has tons of crap done to it but trust me go with the r if you want low cost easy to find hop up's and have something that won't break down alot you could even get used mods like bored heads pipe axl carb's etc.. all of which are much easier to find if u had an r because of the tons of people that ride and race them and swop parts if you do your homework right you could have a sweet r for around 3500 to 4000 grand you could also look into ex race quads which is what iv got
hope this helps monica

I can't believe I saw "low budget" and "race quad" in the same sentance! There is no such thing!

I agree with retro. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A CHEAP RACE QUAD!!! If you want a racing quad, try to find one already built. I would suggest looking around, and not to jump too fast. Look for the best buy, don't be pressured into making a buy.
