Currently we have FMF fatties and silencers, K&N with outerwear, Fmf reeds, and the carbs have 260 mains. What mods would all of you recommend next? Do clamp ons help? How about reed spacers? Cool Head with 20cc domes? Pro design intake manifold? Boost bottle? 35mm race carbs? I have money to spend but I don't want to crack the motor open yet.

How well does the Amplink work?

Thanks,
Mike

i have a 99 banshee and i got a boost bottle on mine and i think it helps and i got reed spaceres too. i went with a cool head on mine and it is 2 sizes bigger than stock but i dont know what size it is but it helped out big time and if u havent done it yet but put a new water pump shaft in it, the one i got has a aluminum propeller and a stainless steel shaft it helped out big time on the cooling part . and i got fmf fatties on it and power core 2 silencers on it and 280 jets and diff needles and a unifilter in it adn if u havent dont it yet u can take the snorkle part off your air cleaner box and dont forget to put a outer wear on your k-n filter 2

Clamp ons and a coolhead will add about 6hp. That would be the next logical step. The carbs would be wise choice, but you need some compression to burn that extra fuel they will dump in, and porting helps even more. The carbs really are like a finishing mod, though they will help some before porting. You may want to think about some good tires as well. The amp link is junk.

First of all get rid of those FMF reeds and get some Boyesens. FMF's are known to break and they don't help near as much as Boyesens.

Get a reed spacer. I don't believe in the clamp ons because the airbox creates more velocity, if you don't belive me call CTracing.

If you get some carbs go with the 28MM not the 35's unless you put a big bore or stroker kit on it. The 35's will take away soooooo much bottom end. I would have Trenga do their taper bore mod on the 28's.

Not sure about the coolhead but I've heard that boost bottles don't help much either.

In fact if I were you I would get some better shocks such as TCS and some better tires before going for more power.

The clamp ons your refering to are only good in the sand. Fine dust from riding trails will still pass through. If you do get clamp on K&N's, go with the larger, 1050's. The smaller ones you see for $60 work, but they restrict alot of air. The 1050's are larger and breath better. They may run around $100 for filters and outer wears. As for a cool head, 20cc domes would work good if you dont have your crank welded. Some new reeds will make a difference and so will spacers. they help with the bottom end a bit. as for boost bottles, they are supposed to help your throttle response. Ive heard pro's and cons on them, so you have to be the judge on that one. The 35mm carbs are a bit of over kill for now. I hear the 34 mikuni flat slides are alot better than the keihins and work well with both ported and non ported motors. you do have to change your intake boots, or go with the proflow intake to run them though. the stock boots will stretch, but are prone to tear. I just had this discussion with a local bike shop for the same reasons as you. looking to upgrade myself. I have heard that the 34 mikunis work REAL well with fmf pipes, K&N filters and either a milled head or cool head with smaller domes. It all depends on what you want to spend.
I have most of these mods myself. the cool head, spacers, carbon fiber reeds, and clamp ons, fmf's and the bike runs good. I run 35 pilots, raised the needle one notch and run 360 mains at 50 degree temps. I run at 4500 ft above sea level too. you would be wise to keep a selection of jets on hand too. Good luck.

We ordered the coolhead with 19cc Domes and the stator adjustment plate. We plan on running it this way for a while and then we are going to send the motor out to have the crank welded and the cylinders ported and polished. Then we will look into carbs at that time. Thanks for the input.
