Kickin' carbs for the banshee

Ok, I have a '94 Banshee. It has been bored .020, FMF Fatty Woods pipes and Power Core II silencers, Pro Design Cool Head with 20CC domes, K & N Filter.... My wife, yup, my wife says she'll get me a set of carbs for my b'day! Hhmmm, what should I get? Keihin's? Mikuni's? What size? And why? Thanks ahead of time for any input or free gifts...

Oh yea, I also have a boost bottle. And how about reeds to go with these new carbs? thanks again

Unfortunately, your woods pipes are not going to make use of the benfits of larger carbs. It sounds like your motor is set up for woods riding, and unless you change your pipes, the carbs will add nothing. More likely, they'll take away some bottom end instead. Spend the money on some mid range porting, not carbs.

I also would reccomend porting over the carbs just the carbs alone doesn't add as much power as porting would

They are right about geting port work done. If you nead new carbs get a single carb with manifold. It's alot easier to jet and it will give you more bottom end. I got it and it works great. Graydon Proline makes one and Trinity Racing makes one. I went with the Graydon Proline they have a kit to help you out.

Along with bigger carbs, you usually end up having to change your intake and air filters. Larger carbs will fit in the stock boots, but they are prone to tearing due to the larger size. You can bore the stock ones to 28mm's, but the round slide isnt as good as a flat slide. Consider what the rest of these guys have to say. You will gain more from a port job than carbs right now.

I would go with a set of 30mm pwk's for your set up. They will go well witht the combo you are running. Porting will definitely make more use of them. But the 30 pwk's will be fine on an unported motor if you want to wait.

Oh, a little trick I learned is to boil your intakes in water and get them soft, then put them on oyur carbs and let them dry. This will strech them without cracking. I have been running 35's like this with no problem.

Thanks to everyone who has posted. I think porting is the way to go for now. I rarely get to go full out in 6th gear, or even 5th gear where I get to quading. I do like getting more lower end. A question to Brandon...Why do you suggest pwk's and not pj's. Is it the slide. And when I do get my heads ported, what carb should I use? I should still stick to the stock carbs?

The carb and size depends on your riding style and where your looking to improve power, I have MX porting and 28pwk Keihin's taper bored to 30mm all done by LRD. This is an excellent mid range power set up for MX racing. Cross Country racers go with the 2into1 carbs for low end or stick with the stock carbs the bigger the carb means more top end less bottom end but a good porter should match you with a port job and the correct carbs you should be using for the power rang your looking for
