After seeing an '84 250r with a GS550 streetbike engine down in the pine barrens last month I decided to try building one myself. I have an '85 rolling chassis, anyone have any tips, tricks, or recommendations on what engine would fit. I am willing and able to cut and weld the frame as necessary and want to keep it all Honda. I've been thinking maybe a CB750,CB900,or CB1000 that's been wrecked. Any suggestions? Has any other sick individual done this? Rideability is not a concern obviously, it'll be used for top end stints on the ice and also to **** off the neighbors. HELP!!

Maybe an XR600 or a CR500.
Or maybe an LS1 corvette 454 with an all aluminum block, and a mean tuned port injection coupled to a T56 six speed and a 12 bolt rear end with an ARB air locker?
Just a thought....

Rob, you obviously haven't been to any serious sand drags, I think it is a little more feasible to put a streetbike motor in a trike than a big block chevy in a new vette. I've seen alot of quads like that so why not a trike?

I think you should look no farther than a radically build 250r with the 400 jug. That should be insane enough to rip your clothes right off on an atc!

ps
I didnt know they made a aluminum LS-1 454. I should get out more often!

Yeah, I've been laying off the car stuff but I think I'd have heard of a new all aluminum big block that has the same name as the new small block. Anyway, I saw the kit from FTZ for the 400 but I really want something that screams totally insane even when standing still. A built 250 makes about 65hp, maybe a 400 kit would make 85hp, a stock 1100 makes more power, runs on pump gas and once I get it set in I can pull it back out after riding it a while and begin to modify it. What I want is MPH and that requires the ability to make RPM with high gears, a streetbike 4cyl seems my only option. The 400 kit will make power at a lower RPM which is great for strictly drag racing put not top end MPH. Thanks for your sugggestion though.

sreet bike has been done before.. but your dealing with alot of weight for a trike... better thought might be an old triple out of a kawasaki or yamaha made a triple water-pumper in the '70's...think they were 750's oh well good luck have fun

I agree with dominator. There are numersous ATC's and trx machines at the dunes with 400 jugs on them running alcohol. they scream. if your interested in seeing some of them, go to www.planetsand.com
they usually smoke the street bike powered bikes. The only street bike powered machines i have seen that blow them away are the NOS powered or turbo. Just an idea. What ever you decide, you will come up with a screamer. Good luck on your quest for speed.

I'll give some more thought to the 400 kit. Maybe I'll do another CR500 powered one.

Alex,

I have the catalog packed away somewhere (I'm in the middle of moving). The company that does it is FTZ racing and they put a pilot top end on the 250r motor. You can check out their website at www.ftzracing.com.
They've been pretty cool guys in my dealings with them and they are happy to send you a catalog to check out their stuff.
