XR600R in 250R frame?

Three of my riding buddies have done big four stroke conversions. One fitted a Yamaha TT600 engine into an 88 quadracer. The only way it would fit was to fabricate new lower frame rails approx 2" lower than standard and even then it's a tight fit (changing plugs is a bitch) The second problem he ran into was traction, or the lack of it, with all that extra weight up front the quad was quite nose heavy, he shortened the alloy swingarm by 2", this helped with getting the grunt onto the ground. The third problem with big 4 strokes is they don't like to lug, they are prone to stalling and are very snatchy on the drive train, gearbox life is shortened, two big rear feet gripping the terrian. My buddies TT has go through a couple of 3rd gears now. Inpressive grunt and deceptively fast but not so reliable, an oil cooler set up is a must otherwise they really cook (melted breather hoses etc). This problem with ssnatchy drive line has also been experinced by another riding buddy, first he put a XL600 (with electric start - nice) into a TRX250R, this had the same problems with lots of wheel spin / no forward traction, so he did a really cool transplant into a 300EX chassis figuring the shorter rearend etc would help, nope same problem plus the thing was a real hand full.
The third one was by far the most sano, this used a tricked over Suzuki DR350 into an 88 Quadracer chassis, the lower frame rails where splayed and possibly lowered 1" to 2 " the engine is a really nice fit. The DR350 motors can be punched out to 440cc and with a good head job, cam and carb can really roost. Plus it seem somewhat more orginal using a suzuki engine in a Suzuki chassis.
