Default Changing Sprokets

If i was to go with a smaller sproket in the front for more low end, do i need to change the size of my chain if i go a few teeth less?

HI, I,M GOING FROM A 13T TO A 12T AND DON'T PLAN ON SHORTING THE CHAIN.ONE LESS TOOTH ON THE FRONT DRIVE GEAR IS EQUAL TO THREE MORE ON THE DRIVEN GEAR. DEPENDING WHAT VEHICLE YOU HAVE.....

Old post sure...but I never come here any more.

When dropping a tooth on the countersprocket it IS equal to 3 teeth in the rear. However, when relating this to chain length, it is not the same. Generally you can add or remove a tooth on the CS without having to cut or lengthen the chain. But if you add or remove 3 teeth to the rear sprocket, you will definitely have to modify your chain.
