What is the dome size of stock Banshee head and what does higher compression do for you anyway?

A stock Banshee has compression about equal to a coolhead with 23cc domes.
As far as compression, Higher compression will give you more power at all rpms. But, you must be carefull to not go too high on the compression. You can safely run around 160-170 # compression on pump 93 octane fuel. Above that, and you will have to pay a hefty premium on higher octane race fuel. If your compression is too high, and you don't use the appropriate fuel, you will have detonation problems which will rip your engine apart in no time.

To add to what richwuest said, higher compression makes your engine rev faster as well.

I really don't want to spend fast since I don't race and I really don't need more top end. I'm looking for a little more usable torque on the bottom since I do mostly difficult slow trails. I was thinking that higher compression might help on the bottom. What size dome will bring an unmodified Banshee to the 160# range? I live in the Chicago area but I don't know the sea level here if that makes a difference.

For less than $20 dollars you can go down 1 tooth on your front sprocket and you will have instant bottom end, or more bottom end anyways...

What is a "play port job", where can it be done and how much does it cost? Will I have to change fuel?

i would recommend lowering you gearing, and if you want to spend money, get a moto-fast or dynoport 2into1 pipe and silencer. it is a single pipe/silencer setup, which brings out alot of bottom and midrange, smooths out the hitting powerband, but in turn for this, you keep about the same topend as stock pipes. but if your looking for lowend this is the setup. you can also mess around with a 2into1 carb. i dont know much about these but do a search and alot of topics will come up with these.

also the 2into1 pipe sounds so awesome. i have a wav of i think bash's old banshee. i can send it to you or ask him, email me if you want it (bjjm007@aol.com). i have heard 2 in real life... both dynoports.... i love the sound and they really woke up the bottom end, the one was pulling nice wheelies shifting threw gears down the road.

Heheh.. The how fast do you want to spend is just my signature man.. I dont understand why you would want to go slow on a banshee though although I do understand the problem with lack of bottom end power!!

Bumping up the compression will give you a little more low end power and might not be as strong on the top end. Too much compression can cause detonation/preignition with pump gas. You might have to run higher octane gas and/or advance timing.

I think that's a good question. At what point do you really need to switch to higher than 93 octane when you do mods. I don't ride my quad much [got messed up late summer and didn't ride much in the fall] but it's got some pretty good mods...bored carbs, carbon fiber reeds, Toomey pipes. I wouldn't mind getting some more low end grunt, if there is such a thing on a 2 stroke, but I don't want to have to switch to race gas when their talking about pump gas going up to $3.00 gal. this summer.
And doesn't elevation have something to do with the octane level you need?
