580 triple in trail boss help!
#1
Ive been working on a $300 project over the last few months and ive managed to put a 1994 polaris xlt600 triple snowmobile engine into a 1993 polaris trail boss 250 chassis. It runs and drives but im having 2 problems and need to fix them so the quad will be trailable. Im using the tail boss belt with the snowmobile clutch and its narrower than the snowmobile belt so it engages around 4500-5000rpm. needless to say thats too high so my first question is what color clutch spring do i need to make in engage around 2500-3000 rpm. 2nd problem is it has tons of power but its geared too low so its reving probably 7-8000 rpm at its top speed of mabye 50mph. I want to be able to cruse at 40mph 1/2 throttle or less and still have enough low end to rip those tires up when i want to. with a top speed of around 80mph. So, my last question is what size rear sprocket thould i go down to. stock is 42 so how many teeth do you think i should go down?
So once more. What clutch spring? what rear sprocket? Thanks for any help
