Top End
#1
I am going to be doing a top end rebuild this weekend I just had the cylinder bored .020 over and had the head milled .020. Is there any tricks or advice anybody has as this is my first quad rebuild. Thanks for the Time

Not all bore jobs are perfect, so I've learned to install the rings on the piston and fit the piston into the complete length of the cylinder prior to trying to install it onto the engine. Sometimes there "accidentally" happens to be a taper to the bore, which means it has to go back to the machine shop to fix. You can mess up a set of rings trying to make it fit.
When installing the circlips, place a rag over the engine, around the rod, so when one of the circlips goes flying, it does not fall into the engine.
On installing the piston/rings in the cylinder, a set of cheap hooks and picks, or a small screwdriver help wonderfully in assisting the rings to fit in the bottom bevel of the cylinder. They make ring compressor's for this also, but I find it is easier and faster to use the method above.
If you have a 4 stroke, you need to at least lap your valves, and most likely the intake(s) need to be replaced as they are prone to wearing the valve face.
Clean surfaces are the key to no leaks.
