Cost to Build YZ426 Quad
#3
Actually, I think it costs a little more than $10k to $15k. I've talked to Kory Ellis a few times...He said he had to buy the whole bike just to get the motor. Then he parts the rest out. For Kory, I doubt building a 426 is too hard on his pocket, with his sponsors helping him out...
But it might require a little more cash to build a full race YZ426/250R. I guess after you part the bike out and if you spend your money wisely, you might be able to build one in the 15k-20k range.

One of my friends just finished building one with all new parts(the whole quad) he got about half of his parts at wholesale and he spent 25k and that includes the money he got from parting out the new dirtbike. It has the best of everything, Laeger,PEP,Billet douglas wheels, all of it! Good luck!

Do what East Coast ATV does, By a used 400ex and a used YZ426 and swap 426 motor into the EX. Unless you can find a semi race ready EX, add about $5000 in goods to make it full race.
used YZ426 $5000
used 400EX $5000
Perfomance parts $5000*
______________________
total $15000
Sell EX motor -$500
Sell YZ frame -$2000
______________________
total cost $12500
*Performance parts include:
a-arms
swing arm
axle
shocks
beadlocks
front rims
4 tires
steering stabilizer
nerf bars
grab bar
bumper
handle bars
misc.
If you are lucky enough to find a full race EX for $5000 then the total would be more like $7500. Just remember, things ALWAYS work out better on paper than in REAL LIFE!
