Cranks, but doesn't start
#1
I have a 96 Polaris 300 Xpress. The other day while out on a hunting trip I fouled out a spark plug...the first since I purchased the bike. After replacing the plug it started like a dream and didn't have any problems until I returned home and found out today it is doing the same thing it did while on my trip earlier. This time it doesn't appear to be a fouled plug though. I checked the plug for sparks and that was good. I also checked the fuel filter to make sure fuel was running through good, and that appeared good. I did put in a GL of gas I had sitting outside all winter before I left on the trip, and even assuming there was water in the gas, it should have given me problems while out riding over the weekend...right? Regardless I through some HEAT into the resevoir. Should I check the oil line? I am far from being a mechanic, but I don't mind tinkering with things within my capabilities. Especially if it will save me some dough. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hard to say from here but I'll give it a shot. Is the sparkplug damp with gas after cranking it over a few times? If not maybe the float needs reajustment, or the carb needs cleaning. Maybe the float bowl is full of water?

Maybe quick, maybe easy, but if I know Polaris they are going to charge me an arm and a leg. Anyone know if you can get atv filters at NAPA or elsewhere? I tried calling today and they were closed due to Memorial Day.

Any good mail order company should be able to assist you with this filter. A Uni Foam Filter (better protection) will run you $19.95, a K & N filter (better air flow) will run $39.95. Service your filter every 3-5 hours of use for the best engine reliability, otherwise piston and ring wear as well as connecting rod failure will be just around the corner. Good Luck.
