Got Air??????????
#1
I have a 2001 blaster with fmf pipes and silencer, carbon fiber reeds, and a 260 jet, I just put all this in and it boggs down like crazy if I have the top to the air box on. I took the snorkle of but that didn't do anything. Should I go down a jet or should I drill holes in the top of the air box and put some screen or something there? with the top off it runs okay still a little hesitation but when it kicked in what a difference I couldn't believe it. Nothing compared to my friends banshee though, but I ain't spending that much on a quad. any suggestions will be help full thanks, also what other mods would be next on my list??

I just went down to a 240 jet and this solves the problem if I leave the snorkle off of the airbox. Is this okay? I do ride a lot of mud and puddles and stuff. I was thinking I would run a 250 though with fmf pipes, silencer, reeds and k&N filter what do you guys think??with the snorkle off it runs pretty good with a 240 though but that is only one higher tha stock I had a 230 in it stock. maybe when it gets a little colder I willl try the 250

I know when I had a Blaster I was told to remove the snorkle completely (after installing an aftermarket exhaust). The aftermarket exhaust requires more fuel (by increasing the jet size), and by increasing the amount of fuel going into the cylinder, you need to balance it out with more air (by removing the snorkel). I'm no expert, but it makes since to me.
I now race motocross on a 250R and I run my airbox without the lid or the snorkel. I know Nac's Racing makes a plug for the hole where the snorkel went for 250R's... If your worried about mud getting in your airbox check into that. If by removing the snorkel the quad still isn't getting enough air, drilling holes in the airbox lid or removing it completely may solve the problem. But I would talk to CT, Trinity, or Vito's before going through with something like that.
Hope I've helped.

In dirt wheels web site under I believe hop up secrets or something.
They take three different after market shops and give them a blaster among other bikes and give some real sound info on the blaster.
I recently had a 92 model blaster with much of the same set up you have, and I took the suggestion (can't remember were I read it) to drill six one inch holes in the air box cover.
This worked graet, although any drilling to the air box cover compromises water integraty I suggested to the customer to apply duct tape over the holes in wet conditions. You also have the option to purchase a secound cover.
I wouldn't worry to much though the snorkle is maybe three inches higher than the air box cover. Atleast on the blasters I've worked on the snorkle came up behind the gas tank.
Note: I did tape the holes and took it for a spin and it did bog some but was still rideable.
Good Luck.

Where would I get this Secound Cover for my Air Box?? I was also thinking if I drill the holes and take some airconditioner filter and put it under so it helps filter a little more or is this a stupid idea? I also thought it would prevent maybe a little bit of water from coming in. And If I Drill the holes in the lid should I block off the hole where the snorkle used to be or just leave it open. With the cover off and the 260 jet in it was fast as hell but it bogged a little in the beginning so if I drill the holes in the top should I go up one more jet to the 250? Thanks for all the help so far!!!!
