I remember seeing a picture of it in my Banshee manual (back when I knew where my manual was). I have a '89 Lt500 that blows head gaskets every 2 hours of ride time. The motor is fresh from Duncan, but I'm guessing the barrel and head (Duncan's power head w/ interchangeable domes) are slightly warped. What grit sand paper do you use? How do I know when I'm done?
Thanks for any info on this!

320 Grit works well...some 600 to finalize it...Use some light oil with your paper.

Make a couple of initial swirls and then look at the head. The high spots will be shiney...go till there is a uniform color around. I like to use a swirl pattern, spinning the head slightly in my hand ever 5 or so oscillations to ensure pressure is applied evenly across the piece. Swirl, swirl, swirl, swirl, swirl, re-grip in a diff position, swirl,...ok you get the idea...

Clean it all up really well. New gasket. Torque...get warm retorque. Torque in incremental steps. Like 10 ft.lb, 15 ft/lb, final 20 ft.lb..criss-cross pattern, yada, yada, yada...

Just make sure you put the sandpaper on something that is really flat.I usually use a thick piece of glass.

I'd say call Duncan and have them fix it the right way. Their customer service is great and I am sure they will fix it for you.

Actually the first thing I did was to call Duncan. Loren said, "It's a 500!" and told me that 500's blow head gaskets. He also said that I'm over heating it, but I do have water temp gauge installed, and the quad runs between 170 and 200. He swears my gauge is not accurate, but it's an Autometer gauge and I'm taking the reading out of the head before the coolant hits the radiator. I'm better off fixing the problem myself then arguing with Duncan’s customer service. Anyway, I don't want to turn this post into a complaint about Duncan. Thanks for all the help guys! I'll let you know how it goes!
