I am considering having my Banshee's clutch cover machined and fitted with a "Quick Change" clutch cover. Has anyone had any problems as a result of having this done? Are there any other reasons why I should or should not perform this mod?

Thanks in advance,

Daren

I'll be the devils advocate here and ask.....Why? Why in the sense of are you burning clutches up...if then there are cheaper alternatives perhaps(heavier springs, friction composition)...I havent heard of any problems with the actual mod other than the cost...

If its a case of hey it looks cool and all that....go for it!!!

I have already installed clutch friction plates that have significantly more surface area than the stock plates. I also have replaced all six clutch springs with heavy duty springs. Yes, I have had clutch problems in the past. Although these problems do not happen often, they do seem to happen at times when it is most critical. I take my riding and racing very seriously. I thought that it would be nice to have the Quick Change Clutch Cover, you know, just in case I needed to make a quick clutch change! My riding area is almost two hours away and when I go, I try to go prepared. I think that it would also be very convenient for any other time that I may want to take the clutch apart and examine it.

Please note that the only information that I am seeking is a response to the original question.

I had CT Racing perform the mod to my cover while they had my motor a while back. I have had no problems since it was done. No leaks, no nothing. Actually I have not even got to use it this year. I was also buring up clutches like they were free. I had used them all. Alba, Barnett, EBC. I finally decided to go with a Toomey. Man, that is a good clutch pack. I put it in when I had the clutch cover mod done. I have not had a problem with the clutch all year. It is just now starting to fade, but it is still very usable. Here is another hot product I found. If your like me, you probley hate the clutch adjustment screw on the banshee clutch pressure plate. It is hard to get loose, and hard to make 100% sure it is tight. Alba sells a modified cable with an external adjustment that adjust the clutch externally. This way you do not have to pull the cover and drain all you fluids. It works really well. I set the play with the external adjust and fine tune it as the moto wears on with the quick adjust clutch lever. It seems to be a pretty good set-up. The only problem I had with the cable was the end of it would not fit into the quick adjust sleeve. I just took a dremel tool and smoothed it out a little so it would go inside sleeve. Those are just a few things I have found to buy that actually work. I have a CT 370 Long Rod in my quad and it did not burn up the Toomey clutch like it did all the others.

Thanks for the info CTBanshee. I have been considering this mod, not because of frequent clutch work, just so that when I do have to change plates the process is a lot quicker and simpler. I would like to have spare plates with me at all times, so if I'm out riding or racing, I can replace the clutch in minutes.

I appreciate your recommendation of the Toomey clutch. I have a Trinity Racing, Stage 3, 420 Long Rod motor and I'm running one of their clutch kits. It has held up very well. The friction plates are larger than stock (does not use cushion rings).

Glad to hear no problems on the clutch cover.

Thanks,

Daren
